BBS Bs

I have a read of few threads about folks getting BBS shaves without going ATG. One the comes to mind claims the guy shaved doing 2 WTG passes then 1 XTG pass and got BBS. I am sorry I just don't believe it is possible. You have to go ATG to get BBS.

Anyway, I gave this method a try my last 3 shaves. I can't get a BBS shave without going ATG. So I call BS on this, lol.

I think it depends on beard type. Not all men have thick beards. I know plenty of guys older than me that can barely grow anything. And when I was a teenager I could probably shave 1 pass WTG with a spoon and get BBS!

So I would say that for most people ATG is required for BBS, but not for some who have light beards.

First of all the thread title hurt my brain

Second, I can get a mostly BBS shave by only going WTG and XTG- the secret lies in using an SE razor! YMMV though.

I think I can honestly say that on my face I have never been able to achieve BBS in the sense of it being baby butt smooth in all directions even when pushing hard in any direction and with no stubble remaining anywhere. Come next year, I will give SE a shot to see if it helps to achieve what to me seems an impossible degree of perfection. That being said, it is not such a big deal because I enjoy the shave itself more than the end result, at least when I am straight shaving.

Ditto.

I do a three pass and some parts are BBS and others are not, and I cannot see how anyone with other than what we used to call "Peach Fuzz" on their face, can get a BBS without going ATG

And double dittos on "it is not such a big deal because I enjoy the shave itself more than the end result".

It depends on the way their beard grows I would assume. There is one small part on my chin where the hairs grow straight up. I can get BBS there with just a WTG and maybe a XTG stroke.

On the rest of my face, my hairs grow at an angle so I have to go ATG to get BBS.

I'm assuming the folks you're talking about have hair that grows straight up.

BBS is not the quest for the holy grail

Sometimes I get a great shave, sometimes not so great (for any number of reasons, I'm in a hurry, I try to get another day out of a blade, or whatever)

The point is that I enjoy my shave and I don't give a damn about anyone reporting on the quality of their daily shave. Your report about getting or not getting a BBS is not relavant to me

I only read this thread because of the title, I thought it was perfect, BBS_BS

thats how I see it

I only use two passes: WTG and Gillette Slide (so a combo of WTG and XTG, I suppose). I go ATG on the second pass everywhere else but the chin, where I go XTG. With a good setup the results don't constitute a bonafide BBS, but a DFS that's mighty close to one.

If I can achieve that with my thick beard, I believe that someone with a light beard is capable of getting BBS without going ATG.

Anyway, journey > destination.

If my skin is pushed down by the razor during XTG shaving right before the whisker is cut, I will get BBS shaves. With proper skin stretching, the possibility of BBS shaves is even higher.

I'm buying! :)

I can only get a BBS shave if I go 3 to 4 passes with the last one ATG. Lately I have eliminated the WTG pass on my neck area and doing just 3 passes and touch up if necessary.

As long as my upper face is nice and smooth I'm happy. I don't go around stroking my neck all day anyhow.
But I must say that for me I have to go ATG to get that nice smooth feel.
I usually use a 1 setting first pass, a 2 setting 2nd pass, and a 4 setting third pass on my Progress. 2nd or 3rd pass is usually the ATG

I got moves like Jagger
I can get a BBS with a single WTG pass..... but I'm only allowed to feel my cheek in the same direction :biggrin1:

Yeah, WTG only gives me a CCS, some places I need to go wtg to get to a DFS, but ATG for BBS. But if I do ATG at all locations on my face, I will get irritation and worse some spots are prone to ingrown hairs.

So you have to live with what you got and you have to adjust to what you got to live with.

wow, I shouldn't write before my first cup of joe is down. I get philosoph-fying.

YMMV.
I have thick and coarse beard and I can get BBS on most part of my face by going 2 times XTG in opposite directions. That's what works for me.
I quit trying ATG a long time ago, it's not worth it.

Me too, in fact for me that is ATG as that is how my beards grows there.

I think that makes more sense on how someone can not go ATG and still get a BBS shave. Someone might say they don't go ATG when they really mean they don't do a south to north pass. Their beard might grow from their ear to chin causing an EW or WE (depending on which side of their face they are on) actually be an ATG stroke, not XTG.

This thread is starting to read like a luvmysuper quote...

This isn't my report. I am calling BS on some of the claims of others getting BBS without going ATG.

I just don't buy it. No ATG = No BBS.

I feel the BBS shave it like the perfectly honed edge of a knife, it doesn't last long:sad: I have honed a few of my knives to hair whittling sharp and if I only whittle hair with them the edge stays, but as soon as I try to cut something that I would in a normal day that perfect edge disappears. It is still shap and usable, it just wont whittle hair any more.

I chase the BBS shave every time I shave, some times I get it, some times I don't. When I do get it it seems that the beard grows out and ruins that feel fairly quickly. On those days that I don't get the BBS the little bit of stubble that is left seems to dull the sensation and I don't feel the stubble growth as much.

I still chase the BBS with every shave, I do have to go ATG to get it, but I have a fairly thick and heavy beard.
