Bay Rum

I use St. John's Bay Rum as a standard daily aftershave/cologne. It has a wonderfully woody/spicey smell that lasts and is not overpowering. Also, it really does a terrific job toning my skin. It's especially fragrant on a warm summer day.

It's bottled in the USVI by the West Indies Bay Co., St. Thomas, USVI. A bit pricey but well worth the cost.

The only Bay Rum I've tried is from Ogalalla in NE.....and I really like it. Without having anything for comparison, I'm thinking I'd probably enjoy the "Special Reserve" more as its stronger. The same company also offers other A/S that have additional scents blended with the usual.
It would be interesting to learn how other brands compare. One could spend considerable time (and money) with just this product!

I am a die hard Pinaud Bay Rum user. Just has than certain classic quality and last a good long time.

I wish I had your chemistry...The Pinaud Bay Rum lasts about a half hour on me. I love the scent, and if they made a cologne that had some staying power with that scent I'd be all over it.

That's the craziest thing-Pinaud BR lasts just about all day on me but Royall BR--I might get a good two hours and its gone. Same with Burt's Bees Bay Run balm(which is fantastic if you havn't tried it.)

I get good mileage out of Ogallala also...Almost all day. Definitely want to try the St. Johns and the Dominica..Those will be next up on the list...

Is Pinaud bay rum and Clubman bay rum the same thing?

AFAIK, yes.

Myanmar Shave -

I have the Burt's Bees Bay Rum Balm, and like it very much. It's kind of pine scented to my nose, but once again, fleeting.

I have the Ogallala Cologne and AS samples, and once again, great scent, about an hour or so and it's gone. Not just for me, it's not that I've been desensitized, I've asked the bride and others.

I've heard the Bigelow bay rum offering lasts, and may try the Ogallala double strength.

Other colognes last a good 5-8 hours on me, so it might be a me vs. the Bay Rum thing, a shame since I really like the scent.

Hey Topgumby-

You know, Burt's Bees also makes a BR Cologne that is pretty powerful. I can only use it in very small amounts and it's staying power is unreal. Only place you can get it now is thru their website. You may want to check that out if you really want longevity. Smells great too, but different from the AS Balm.

If you have a Sephora beauty shop near you, they have a little pocket atomizer about the size of a lipstick case that you can keep handy with you. I keep the Burt's Bees Cologne or Ogallala in it and recharge whenever I need too. Works fantastic. It comes with a mini-funnel and sprays a perfect amount of product everytime. Really good quality atomizer.

all the best,

Today I am wearing the Bay Rum & Sandalwood AS by Ogallala. My wife just loves this fragrance. I also have the Lime, Peppercorns & Bay Rum As that I like better but my wife does not. She actually does not like just the straight bay rum. I wear it enough hoping she will grow into it.

Try the balm. I prefer it over the aftershave/cologne. I've tried using other balms but this one always draws me back. I'll be placing another order for some more soon.
