Bay Rum

For those who use Bay Rum, what is your favorite and least favorite and why?
My girlfriend likes the scent of Bay Rum so I want to wear some that she might like.
Thanks

I have used a few, and I think there is a lot of variation based on the other ingredients other than the oil from the West Indian bay tree. Some make you smell like pumpkin pie. My advice is try and figure out what Bay Rum your lady likes, or what about the Bay Rum scent she likes.

Edit: You probably want to try a few and get your own experience. Clubman is the traditional barbershop variety. I use Dominica now, but if long lasting fragrance is what you are after it may not be for you.

It seems like Bay Rum varies a lot from brand to brand
Its seems as though Bay Rum varies a lot from brand to brand.

If you don't like cloves--Dominica. If you like cloves--Layrite No. 9. If you like pumpkin spice--Kramperts.

If we're talking about AS splashes, and their scents (i.e., for the Frag forum): for me Captain's or Meehan's wins. Captain's is considerably less expensive and -- on me, contrary to what I read from others -- lasts a whole lot longer than Meehan's.

I don't know what-all spices are in Kramperts; Bryan Krampert has said there's very little clove, though it smells "clovey" to me -- perhaps I'll just agree with Chadao (as often I do) and call it "pumpkin spice". Krampert's is very healing if you've had a rough shave. I like the scent a bit less than the others, but I do like it. I like the splash more than the others if I have any razor irritation at all.

Colognes -- I've tried only Bigelow's (which I don't really like) and Gilbert Henry's, which I almost like but not quite. I think their balm smells great; the cologne has the same notes, but balanced differently, and I find the citrus in it somewhat unpleasant. It's bay and "woodsy" and a bitter orange (I think). Balanced beautifully in the balm.

As stated above, there are lots of variables with Bay Rums, how "clovey" each one is typically seems like the deciding factor for a lot of folks. Captain's Choice gets a lot of love around here, and with good reason. It's great stuff. Ogallala has a sampler pack that you can order to get a feel for all their products, and they are another brand that a number of folks swear by. As mentioned earlier, Clubman VIBR and Dominica tend to be crowd pleasers too. But for the most part, like anything and everything on this forum: YMMV.

At the very least, try one or two and then you can post what you did or didn't like about them and folks may be able to give you some advice from there.

edit: whoops, forgot we were in the fragrance forum and not AS. Most of what is listed above are AS splashes.

The only one that I have tried in Royall Bay Rhum.
Its amazing, apparently its clovey, if thats a word?!

My everyday after shave is Pinaud's Virgin Island Bay Rum. I will sometimes use Captain's Choice for a change. I made up a batch of my own Bay Rum which is quite nice, but I did not add quite enough rum to the mix so I miss the burn when I use my own mixture.

My favorite is Meehan Bonny Doon - bay without much spice.

My advice: get the Barclay Crocker Bay Rum sampler and try them all

I was referring to the AS scent. I normally use Nivea balm gut would like to change it up once in a while. I would also be interested in
Bay Rum balms.

Captain's Choice co9t is the most exotic, deepest, darkerst and least sweet and least clovey of the Ones I have tried. It's amazing. And lasts a couple hours.

I'm really liking ogallala special reserve double-strength bay rum colone. It's a little sweeter than co9t buts its not clovey. Lasts quite awhile. Longest of any bay rum I've tried. http://www.ogallalabayrum.mybigcomm...rength-4-oz-genuine-ogallala-bay-rum-cologne/

pinaud VIBR has been my daily use for the past week. The Christmas cookie spice bomb wears off pretty quick. It does a fantastic job tightening my face and hiding irritation. Unbearable burn if it was not a smooth shave, which is kinda fun.

Try Aramis Havana. It has a nice bay rum scent + tobacco and cinnamon. It lasts at least 8-10 hrs for me.
You can find mini bottles on ebay pretty cheap to sample if you cant find it in a department store.
