Bath powder

Is there such a product as bath powder? I know all the stores want to sell you bath salts, but that's not what I'm looking for. About 20 years ago I bought this wonderful scented bath powder, it fizzled a bit when I put it in and had a great scent. It had the consistency of Tide detergent, or regular dish washing powder. . . . that kind of powder. Does anyone know where I can get some bath powder? Maybe it has a name other than bath powder. Any information on the subject would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Mr. Bubble is the only bubble bath I know. Any drug store or one of the mall stores like C&E or B&BW would probably have bubble bath powder, though they will more than likely be marketed towards women.

This is not a bubble bath . . . most of which are liquid . . . It was a bath powder which only fizzled a little. But the scent and texture it gave the water were incredible. That's the problem. This animal doesn't seem to have a readily recognized category I can put it in. That's why I started out my post saying: " Is there such a thing as bath powder?" HELP!!

We always called those 'bath bombs', I always see them for sale at Lush.

Thanks, Chris . . but it was definitely not a bath bomb. I think what you're talking about comes all pressed together in some shape . . like a ball or something. What I'm talking about was a loose granulated powder like Tide detergent. You could pour it. I'm starting to think that maybe this product isn't made anymore.

The loose powder stuff, here at least, was called bath salts, the kind of thing you'd buy for an aunties Christmas present, garish colours and strong scents but always appreciated

This is made both commercially and by the home crafter. You want a product that contains citric acid and baking soda. The two combined when water is added will provide the fizz.

With bath bombs your two main ingredients are the citric acid and baking soda and then they are compressed into shapes. Most often round balls.

But with a loose version often other ingredients are added such as epson salt or dead sea salts. Then put into the package to be added loosely into the bath water.

I don't know of any commercial brands other than to go to the store and read labels. But with a little creativity you can make it yourself.

If you want the loose version I might suggest adding in some plain old epson salt, it's often overlooked and under appreciated. (Also cheap) And will be great for your skin as well. If you want that powder fine consistency, you can add the epson salt to your blender or food processor to grind it up some. If you use a blender add small amounts at a time. Only a handful to get a good powdery consistency.

If it helps in Australia we used to have one called Radox.
Came in a cardboard box and had a texture similar to washing powder.
I last saw it around 10 years ago.

I think the bath bombs might just be the same product compressed into a ball?

Hi

Yep, the powder is the same as the bombs just not formed. I know many crafters that will package and sell bath powder after a failed batch of bombs. :blushing:
