Basic hone question

I always rinse most of my stones of and then wipe them with a towel and have them sit before putting them away.

With my Escher, I use slurry, and when I am done with it I let it sit with the slurry on it so it dries on the stone for next time, I box it up like that.

With Nortons, I would dry them thoroughly before putting them away, I read somewhere they can "mold"(?).

Naniwas, I rinse them off and then wipe them dry and let them sit for a bit.

My coticules I just wipe off and let them sit around so I can look at them, same with my Nakayama Kiita. :thumbup1:

That is very helpful information. Thank You!

I have an old King 1K that I was told that once it was "soaked" that I would need to keep it in water. The caution was that if it dried out, it was prone to cracking and/or crumbling. So I've kept it wet for 10 years and still use it. Ever hear that or was it just a honing version of "urban legend"?

I think it's a myth.
OTOH Kings need a good soak before use & they can be stored in water permanently.
So storing them in water is rather handy.
My 1K & 6K Kings get regular soaks & I keep them dry in between, never had any problems.

I think I do like most folks do. Rinse all used hones & let them dry before stowing away.

My norton and particularly my king take ages to dry. I have left them out drying for days and then put them into their cardboard box only to have the box go soggy.

I clean mine when done, get rid of any excess water and leave them out to dry...
