After a hone is used, do you dry it off before it is stored, or should you store it wet and let it dry on its own?
I always rinse most of my stones of and then wipe them with a towel and have them sit before putting them away.
With my Escher, I use slurry, and when I am done with it I let it sit with the slurry on it so it dries on the stone for next time, I box it up like that.
With Nortons, I would dry them thoroughly before putting them away, I read somewhere they can "mold"(?).
Naniwas, I rinse them off and then wipe them dry and let them sit for a bit.
My coticules I just wipe off and let them sit around so I can look at them, same with my Nakayama Kiita.
I think it's a myth.I have an old King 1K that I was told that once it was "soaked" that I would need to keep it in water. The caution was that if it dried out, it was prone to cracking and/or crumbling. So I've kept it wet for 10 years and still use it. Ever hear that or was it just a honing version of "urban legend"?
Me neither, I use big plastic boxes with a few small holes in the lid.Air dry does the trick for me, then I put them away, though never in their boxes!
