Got the email this scent and Leviathan were released. Just placed my order for a jar. Has anyone else tried it? Thoughts?

I have an older release and it's my #1 favorite apple forward scented soap. Good stuff.
So, I just received a sample of Nocturne I think it was Friday. I haven't actually used it to shave with yet, but when I opened the bag it was in I was like, "nope." I used to dip, and the first whiff for me smelled exactly like a can of Copenhagen. There was no way I'd put this on my face. I threw it under the sink with my stuff and figured I would EVENTUALLY get to it. Then I just read willk93's comment and gave it another, deeper, sniff. While it still smells like Copenhagen at the initial whiff, if you really get your nose into it it's far more complex. The best way I can describe it is, apple up front combined with a pile of wet, rotting leaves (but not in a bad way). It absolutely screams "fall"
ETA: and smoke! There's a smoke smell as well. Couldn't put my finger on it until I re-read their description.

@andboom1985 Thanks for your comment! That's interesting that it smells like chewing tobacco to you. I find your "wet, rotting leaves" description funny haha.
It's definitely smoke-forward, to me. My jar arrived Friday, too. I know this sounds bad, but I immediately get a burnt plastic smell. Hopefully, the scent becomes more complex and I get some of the apple upon lathering. I already know the performance will be excellent. It's just a matter of how strong/how tolerable the scent is on my face.

@willk93 I only got a sample so I'm guessing the plastic smell is from the jar itself? Hopefully the fragrance opens up for you when you use it! I'm just getting back into wet shaving and really enjoying finding new products to test and experience so I'm looking forward to giving this soap a try!
I received a sample a couple weeks ago and upon opening the bag it was all smoke smell. Not a natural smoke smell to my nose but heavy on whatever it was. I left the bag open (and continue to do so) in an effort to let the soap continue to cure as well as ‘off gas’ for a lack of better term. It has helped tremendously and the smoke smell has certainly subdued.
For anyone who hasn’t tried it, I would leave the bag open for a few days and lather it up at least once before calling it quits. When lathered the scent changes to my nose; the Apple comes to the front and the smoke is more subdued.

@andboom1985 That's an interesting theory that the smell could be from the container. Never had that with any other soap, though.
I'm hoping that, too haha. Welcome back to this way of shaving! Fingers crossed that we both enjoy this soap
@bk200006 That's a great idea. I'll leave the lid off my jar for a few days and hope the smoke note mellows out. I'm glad to hear the scent profile changed for you upon use!

My impression from when I purchased it a couple of years ago: Off the puck I get a heavy dose of yeast, musty cheese, and woodsmoke. Lathering it up releases a very faint apple smell.
Mine slaps me with the smoke scent, but I haven't lathered it yet so I'm holding off with my thoughts on it until I do.
