Barnes and Noble Nook

Anyone have one of these? What do you do for lighting? I see a couple devices to use with these and the Kindle but wanted to ask someone who owned one if a lights worth the money. And since were on the subject, do you like the book readers? I've always been a fan of the actual books but traveling with a bunch of books adds a lot of weight to your luggage. Got this as a gift and i think i'm really gonna like it.

Love mine, what sort of light are you refering to?

The screen isn't backlit right? Or is it and i'm not aware of it lol. I see some lights you can clip on to it so you can read in the dark. I have a light in my bunk but it's too bright. I would like a little light to clip on to it for reading before bed.

Now I understand,None of the E ink readers are backlit,I just read by the light I usually read by.

Yea, the light i have in my bunk on the boat is so bright it practically lights up the room. Kinda hard to fall asleep when you feel like your being interagated so i was looking for a dim light to read by. I have also found a Nook cover (which i also need) that has a light inside of it. Maybe i'll look more into that.

I have a clip on light my daughter got me for Christmas last year that I was using for my Sony reader, it's similar to the one walker posted above. I'm reading books on the iPad now which is back light so no extra light needed. My daughter wanted a Kindle so we gave her the Sony reader to see if she actually would use it. Who would have guessed a 9 year old would suck down books like there going out of style, check that, she's my kid and I read like it's going out of style.

I received a Pandigital multimedia ereader for Christmas...this one is back lit and has a light sensor that adjusts the back light as lighting conditions change. I like it a lot so far!

I've read my first book using the Nook and i'm growing very fond of this device. Very user friendly and alot better than carrying around 5 or 6 books back to work with me. After sitting on a plane next to a guy with a Nook Color i would say that those are nicer since it is backlite and it has a touch screen as opposed to the black/white Nook which has a small touch panel. But all in all i'm glad i recieved this for Christmas. My back thanks you Nook. And the little Lyra light for the Nook is working out also. Thanks for the input guys!!

Currently I'm reading the nights dawn trilogy by Peter F Hamiliton then I'm onto either three cups of tea or Benjamin Franklins autobiography, havent decided yet.

I started reading Benjamin Franklin by Walter Isaacson but got sidetracked with studies. I think i'm gonna have to break that back out.

We got a Nook for Christmas. I was kind of skeptical about it at first, but I love it.

Walker - I wouldn't worry about the Nook Color being "nicer". If you are doing heavy reading, the regular Nook is the way to go because it has an E-Ink screen and no backlight.

E-Ink kind of works on the same color/lighting theory that regular ink does. That is you are manipulating the light bouncing on and off of the screen or page. The background is opaque (like paper) and the ink (or E-Ink) manipulates how the light bounces. That is why E-Ink screens look so crisp and are easy to read. Thats subtractive color theory. LCD must be backlit because the display is nearly clear. Light isn't bouncing off of the screen, rather the light from behind is transmitting the display. That is additive color.

Backlit LCD = eye strain. I'd only get a Nook Color if I didn't want to shell out the money for an iPad and wanted to read a lot of comic books, childrens books or magazines. Nook Classic is for heavy reading, period.

Love my Nook, have the basic one that works to perfection,no need for color as it is used just for reading books.
Am certain the Kindle is also a great reader, but a couple considerations lead to getting the nook.
#1, it has a replaceble battery
#2, it has a port to download future enhancments etc
#3,need tech support? not being computer literate,I just drove down to B&N,nook in hand with questions, plenty of real live nookies in the store, got all the help I needed onsite, try that by calling amazon,a wonderfull tool overall.

I have Nook on my iPad. OK, I also have Kindle, the Apple iBook Reader, and other ebook readers on it as well. I haven't used the Nook enough for comparison, but it definitely is not the E ink format. All of the other features seem to be there.

I have no problem reading on my iPad or the Sony reader before that. I read on the pad now because I can't justify carrying two devices around.

The only thing you are getting from the Nook app on your iPad is the format and file types. You have to have the actual Nook device for the E-Ink, which is an entirely different screen technology. I'm assuming Nook just has its app for the iPad so users can use Barnes & Noble to shop for electronic books. B&N apparently has a larger library than iTunes Store does.
