Just wondering if anyone had suggestions on where to buy a good barber's hone? Is there anywhere specific that has a good selection? Or are they one of those items that you have to hope and come across on the BST forum? Thanks!

I scored a nice one for a few bucks.

I'm sure there are others, these are two I'm aware of. I would contact one of these gentlemen and see how they're able to help you. Or you could always just post a WTB in the BST. There are plenty of great folks on these boards are willing to help new members out!

If your patient and look hard than you can find one on ebay and get a good deal, chances are its going to need to be lapped.

I have two lapped, three-line Swatys from the seller of the current item #260591799960 on eBay. They were both like new and flat. EDIT (his hones are really rectangular, it's just his camera lens has some barrel distortion at these close-ups)
I've also picked up a pristine Keen Kutter hone, and a nice two-sided Swaty-Stein "Diamond" hone off eBay.

Nice catch! Sorry for the fat finger! I guess that dog was extra whippppppped! I've updated my post.I picked up my barber's hones at a local flea market. The swaty was $3, and the carborundum was $10. Both are in excellent condition with no chips. The swaty needed lapping, but the carborundum was ready to go out of the box. The last time I was there they had a couple more swaty's but I didn't check the prices.
Flea markets have been good to me for my straight razor hobby. It seems like more often than not there is someone selling something I want for a steal of a price.

If it is going to be your only hone, I suggest a two sided barber hone. Very versatile.
