I’ll be trying my new Keen Kutter black barber hone shortly. Any advice on lube, technique, etc.?

I only use water on them.
Hone like normal. If just touching up then keep it minimal -10-15 strokes.
The recommended 5-6 doesn't do much IMO

With my Swaty three-line I generally hone with lather. It give me a little non-abrasive cushion and also allowes me to make a nice smelling lather that I otherwise couldn't justify as anything other than pure hedonism.
To be complete, I occasionally do a few laps under running water, but 90% of the time it's with lather.
