Barbasol Floating Head Razor

I picked up a Barbasol Floating Head Razor on Ebay.
I love the weight of it and the finish is pretty decent but the cap on it has too much of a gap in it to hold the blade securely. The cap screws in tight but the blade has a little too much play in it. The blade moves too much to shave with it.

Has anyone ever had this issue before with a razor? Any ideas on how to fix it? I welcome any info.

The threads on the head cap's screw go all the way up the neck of the screw, so it should screw all the way down and secure the blade. Is there any foreign materal in the threaded shaft of the safety bar? Examine the shaft that the head cap screw goes into.

How about a short soak for several minutes in something that will disolve calcium, lime, or rust deposits from hard water? Lime-A-way is one such product. Follow that with a dab of WD-40 to further clean and lubricate the thread.

Your Barbasol floating head razor is a marvelous razor, though a little aggressive. I have one, and I would never part with it. It dates from the early to mid 1930's.

Because of the aggressiveness, shave slowly for best results. Because of the weight, shave with a gentle touch without applying pressure. Let us know how it goes!

Thanks. I'll give it a shot and report back!
