Bar Soap Recommendations

So, as I have begun wet shaving, I've started into this whole, "Take good care of your body/face/etc" world. I usually just used whatever random scent of liquid body wash I found with a loufa that I thought smelled nice.

Now I'm trying to find things that are a bit better for me, good for the skin, good scent and able to keep me clean and stinky free day in and out.

I haven't really spent time looking into this before, but am looking for recommendations of good Bar Soaps with either very invigorating/refreshing scents, or a very manly scent (Like Sandalwood) that are also very good for you. On top of this, how does everyone recommend using bar soaps, rub straight on, use a washcloth, or a louffa that holds a bar of soap (Or some other application method)?

I appreciate all the feedback!

i some time uses lava bar soap when i want to make sure i am clean. since it contains pumice but not great for people with sensitive skin though. sand paper to your skin
"ever man's jack" used to make manly scents bar soap. they went dark for a while then came back with only liquid body wash. still manly scents like mint, ceder wood , citrus , sandwood.

there the dove for men line ( only used the body and face deep clean bar but that was a while back) and also can check out old spice there been talk around the board about it.

My suggestion is look into Queen Charlotte Soaps http://www.queencharlottesoaps.com/. Order some bar soaps, shave creams (or soaps), and shampooo bars.

Other online retailers I've had good success with: http://www.chagrinvalleysoapandsalve.com/ - Great shampoo bars. http://www.herbariasoap.com/ - my kids love the Biotherapy Skincare bars to help with their acne.

For the SWMBO, I recommend http://mamabearssoaps.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=48&zenid=213494968b6e6a21ac1b41ea45609814 for feminine scents.

I loved the citrus Every Man Jack liquid soap, but I really want to go to bar.

The Yardley Honeysuckle Citrus looks pretty promising

The Honey Butter from Chagrin Valley also looks promising, thanks for the suggestions guys!

Try MWF bath soap. I've been using it just on my face and I like it a lot. It doesn't have much fragrance, just mild soapy scent, so that may be a negative for you.

I use Kiss My Face Olive Oil soap, lathered with a washcloth. Doesn't have much of a smell, but that is what my aftershaves are for.

It doesn't have any extraneous ingredients, either.

I highly recommend the triple milled soaps from Whole Foods. They lather up easily and have been very good to my skin, and the scents are great. The Vetiver Cedar is my favorite, but Sandalwood, Shea Butter, and Lemon Verbena are all outstanding as well.

I like a whole bunch of different bar soaps, but some of my favorites are: Irish spring, Dr. Bronner's Peppermint bar soap, Filthy Farmgirl soaps, Lush bar soaps. The latter two can be a little more expensive for a bar of soap but they have a variety of unique scents and they're very nice on the skin.

I recently placed an order on Mistral soap's website for a bar of their triple milled cedarwood/marine scent. I've read a lot of good things about that soap.

As for application, I like to build a good lather on one of those mesh poof things and use that. I replace the mesh poof once a month. They're really inexpensive and super easy to come by so that's what I do.

Hope I could help.

Stirling Soap Co (Rod here on B&B) has great bar soaps for $3 each. They usually have tallow and some have lanolin. He also ships fast and is a pleasure to do business with. I picked up Almond Creme, Scotts Pine, Oatmeal and Shea, and Sharp Dressed Man. I love them all! http://stirlingsoap.com/

Wash cloth here. Kirk's Castile is my soap of choice. Love the feeling of clean and the lather. Not a particularly fragrant soap. Can be a tad harsh as some have reported. Not on me however.

the shea moisture utility soap makes great bath soap and has a natural mild scent. "bought it for shave soap but didnt make the cut"

That's pretty sweet, I notice they call it a "Body Bar" does that mean it isn't "technically" soap?

You're right that sometimes manufacturers use terms like "beauty bar" " to mislead but a quick Google search of the ingredients show that this is actually a palm oil soap with a smidgen of shea butter (listed below fragrance).

(Sodium Palmate, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Aqua/Water/Eau, Glycerin, Fragrance/Parfum, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract*, Salvia Sclarea (Clary Sage) Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Oil, Juniperus Virginiana Wood Extract, Citric Acid, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Citrate, Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate, Iron Oxides (CI 77492, CI 77491, CI 77499), Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891). *Certified Organic)

I'm a big fan of Grandpa's pine tar soap. Great for your skin, moisturizes like crazy, with an outdoorsy, campfire scent that is fantastic. The Musgo Real bar soaps are also excellent.

+2. Have not tried these particular ones but I have a few bars that are fantastic. Will be ordering more when my supply gets low!

I love Mama bear's cocoa butter soaps. The Dragons blood is my favorite scent. I smell fantastic for hours, my skin is soft, I'm squeaky clean, and the bars are huge. I do plan to try the Stirling soaps here soon I just wish the had more masculine scents. Mama bear has a huge array of masculine soaps.
