Perhaps you can help with a mystery. I get great shaves at home, even when mixing up my go-to set-up. But I just spent two days in a neighboring country and despite taking my A set-up, I got lousy shaves. My lather was good and slick, I even changed blades in case my polsilver I used the first day was a dud (yep, found Burundi sells Dorcos) but still got crappy shaves. What could it have been??

Even though you said your lather was good and slick I will go with water.
My guess would be the hardness of the water. Water quality can vary greatly from one location to another, and it is much harder to get a good lather with hard water than with soft water.

Might have to smuggle water on my next trip! Think you are right, water was the only variable after all
