Balvenie Double Cask 12 yr

Ordered a solid 2 finger pour of Balvenie Doublewood (excuse the thread title error) neat before dinner. Glad I spied it on the waitress's cheat sheet, because she only offered Glenfiddich 12 and a couple of blends (Cutty Sark and Royal Salute). It's a nice Scotch, but I found it a little uninteresting. Super smooth. Fruity, nutty, sherry finish, but a tad mellow. Sensed a bit of the stuff that makes bourbon so tasty. Probably hold off on this bottle, but I'll give it another try soon.

Don't get me wrong, this is a very nice Scotch. I did enjoy it. Very easy to see why many like it. Might be that I prefer a bit more salt and smoke. I certainly prefer the Doublewood to Glenfiddich 12, Glenlivet 12, and Macallan 12...

I much prefer the highlands scotch myself. Balvenie is the lone exception that just tastes like it's from the highlands. Great stuff. I just do not enjoy the Speyside scotches like Glenfiddich. I can't tolerate the flavor profile almost as much as I can't tolerate artificial sweetener in my drinks.

Yes. Balvenie is a Speyside distiller yet it is much more appealing than the other Speyside malts I've sampled. If this is what the Highland malts taste like, I'd have to say I prefer them to the Speysides, but my favorites lie to the west.

I find the Speyside scotches these smooth sweeter pear notes (best way I can describe it). Even more present in the Glenlivet 15 oak cask. I like them when I feel to get something softer than Islay.

Soft, but not as soft as the Lowlands from my experience (limited for Lowlands)

I find this easy to find and good siping. I almost like the glenmorangie 12 yr Quinta Ruban more. It has more higher floral notes because of the skinnier stills. I think the port wood is good for post dinner.
