Baili BD278L and it's companion blades, the Platinum+

After seeing this razor, finding it very nice looking, being a TTO that I simply stay with, looking at the specifications, which would make it the heaviest razor that I'd have, it caught my interest enough that I jumped in and ordered it right away.

Not much info about many Baili razors or their blades is out there, aside very basic comments, the usual stuff that I see when something isn't part of the "cool crowd", so I didn't know what to expect.

It comes with a small "stand" and a 5 blade pack.

So my review stands after shaving several times with it, some with an Astra SP blade, the others with the Platinum+ it come with. I will state right now that after receiving it and with one shave, I knew that I had to get more, and ordered 2 more (that I already have as I write this). So my review is also based on more than a single unit and will confirm my view of quality control.

The Baili BD278L razor:

The handle: long and heavy, the tip shaped in a way that makes it very easy and comfortable (and solid) to hold. Probably some sort of pot metal as it doesn't have the firmness that I get with stainless steel or brass, but still very solid.

The head, simply superb, no imperfections that I can so, the guard is straight/aligned perfectly, and I will state that the angle of the blade from the pressure of the door closing is simply amazing, the best of all my DE razors as it places the edge of the blade at the perfect angle with the rest of the blade, so much that there is no top gap. It's as if the blade and the door/top of the razor are as one. The gap for the safety bar is actually fairly larger than all my other razors, but still has an excellent feel to it.

Because of this structure, this is the only DE razor that has virtually no clogging at all, regardless of the trials I've imposed on it (a full week worth of growth, my wife's legs...)

The mechanism to open and close the doors: when opened, it does have a bit of a flimsy feel to it. There is a bit of a rattle, but I would still say that it has a normal feel, taking the type of metal and the construction of the razor.

So to state the pros and cons, I'd say that everything I've just mentioned are all the pros, and for cons, aside a possibly limited lifespan due to the type of metal, I cannot find a single con for this razor at this point. Heck, even price wise at around 25$ (and less), this is one purchase that I will not regret... and if the metal type does end up causing breakage, I'd happily buy another replacement.

The Baili Platinum+ are the blades that came with the razor. Not knowing what to expect as I've never used any Baili blade before, I didn't even test out out right away. Knowing my Astra SP, I had decided to give this razor a fair evaluation using one.

The Baili Platinum+ DE blades

The simplest description I can do is:

Decided to try one, placed it in, and shaved. I had tried an Astra SP for the first few shaves with excellent results, but like any new blade, you have to judge it against the "best" blade (for you) to see where it would rank.

The results were such as: very smooth gliding across my face, not a single tugging, not a single.. hmmmm... anything. This blade was outdoing my Astra SP, I was shocked and amazed.

I did a few more shaves with the same blade and still, no irritation at all, I believe that I must have gotten a "bad" blade, as between so many blades I've tried, I've never had one that could glide so well. 3 shaves later, another blade to try again in case that first one was a trap, and dang it, it was just as good... another blade for my wife to try them, and again, it's now made my wife want to have these as her go-to...

So a pack of 100 is now ordered. More expensive than most blades I've purchased in the past, but at this point, this smoothness isn't something that for a few extra dollars I'd want to miss out on.

I'm now considering checking who in my area might be interested in my stock of other blades....
