Denial...

Accept it and you got half the problem solved...

It happened to me the other day. I think they are coding subliminal hypnotic messages from the sponsors... :o11::em2100::shocked::eek2:

I can hear Flip Wilson as Geraldine:

"The Devil made me buy that brush!"

(Too old of a reference?)

Are you kidding? Half of the members here probably remember Francis the Talking Mule.

I have to admit, I saw Flip Wilson on the Smothers Brothers when I was a kid. I had spent plenty of time in the 'hood, so when he did Geraldine, I really did ROFL.

Flip Wilson was a phenomenal ground breaking comedian. An under sung hero. So much more humble than Milton Berle who dressed in drag in the 50's. Berle is a legend and deservedly so. But he was arrogant. Since this thread is highjacked, if I had to pick a second avatar, it would probably be Phil Silvers. From the same school of yiddish/borscht belt comedy as Berle. They performed together. I recall the "singing lesson", a classic bit, with Silvers teaching Berle to sing, requiring him to breathe properly, to enunciate, and slapping his face when he wouldn't cooperate. I think Lucy did the same bit on her show. Finally, for our younger friends, please see Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, World (Berle is married to Dorothy Provine and his mother in law is Merman.) The rivalry between Phil Silvers and Jonathan Winters is heaven on earth. Winters burst onto the scene in the 50's. So many great comedians. The finest modern day comedic team: Gleason and Carney. Standup: Pryor and Allen. Jonathan Winters, who so strongly influenced Robin Williams, is in a unique class by himself. Left Coast, let us know how the hell that Chubby is!!
