Yeesh, it's a tribute to modern razor design that his face isn't in bloody ribbons. His grip on that razor looked like he was trying to shave down to the bone.

I may take some floss tomorrow after my shave and press it against my face and see what happens. Hopefullly it won't be a Hellraiser moment.

I have seen the dental floss, or fine string trick before on
some T.V. program a few months ago.

It is a method of removing fine hair in a fashion similar to using
an "epilator". I seem to remember that the the floss is folded in
half with the loop held between the teeth, and then twisted. By
rubbing/rolling it across the skin, fine hairs are caught in the string,
and the twisting action of rolling it on the face pulls the hair out.

When I saw it, a lady was having her eyebrows done along with
some facial hair along her jawline.

The fog has lifted.......

I thought about it a bit more, and the video I saw had the string
held between the teeth, and twisted as the barber had done.

If you look at his hands closely, he is not rubbing or rolling the
string over the face. He has the ends of the string in each hand
and pulls apart slightly. It seems that by twisting the string first,
it has a tendency to remain twisted...by then seperating of the
two ends (and basicly making a "T" shape with the string) the
point where the strings intersect will trap fine hair. By moving his
hands slightly apart, he causes the string to twist more, and when
he closes the distance between his hands, the string twist relaxes.

It sounds wierd, and kinda hard to explain, but I think you'll get
the idea if you try it....It's basicly a manual epilator.

Fascinating. Are there any known techniques for how to perform this on yourself? I'm scared of the response I would get if I asked my wife to help.

My wife is familiar with this. She said it's a fairly common method that women use to remove hair from their face.

Does she happen to know if this technique has a universally accepted name?

I think I saw something on CNN awhile ago. American soldiers in Iraq were getting haircuts. After the haircut, the Iraqi barbers used heat from small controlled flames to burn the ear hair and such. They did it very quickly. I'm guessing it’s sort of like when you're BBQ'n or cooking something and the heat just burns some of the hair on your hands and fingers.
