What's new

August is Mild/Medium Efficiency Razors Month

Razor: Razorock Lupo 72
Blade: RK Stainless
Pre-shave: Proraso white
Lather: Arko
Aftershave: Nivea sensitive cool balm (with some menthol powder)

Good shave today with the Lupo 72, although it is not quite as close and efficient as the R41. No irritation, good post-shave feel. 9/10.

I'm awaiting delivery of a Lupo 95 OC baseplate. Can't want to try it out and compare with the 72.

I am beginning to question the right fit between this razor and blade. Although it was somewhat smoother than the first time, it still was pulling on me. No weepers or nicks as a result, but not buttery smooth which I love.

End result was good though so we’ll see if tomorrow the blade smoothens out or not. And I am considering if I need to use another handle. The stick handle is beautiful, but also light and very thin. My OCD says to keep using the razor as intended - my critical faculty says to get some Razorock vintage handles.

Thanks to David for hosting the Mild/Medium Efficiency Razors Month.

Here is my summary:

RazoRock GC68-P + Gillette Platinum 3 shaves close; very smooth; DFS

ATT Atlas R1 + Astra SP
2 shaves very close; very smooth; DFS+

Muhle R89 + Gillette Perma-Sharp
3 shaves close; very smooth; DFS+

Edwin Jagger 3ONE6 + Lord Platinum Class
5 shaves Very Close; Very Smooth; DFS+

Merkur HD 34C + Pol-Silver SI
3 shaves close; Very smooth; DFS+

Gillette 1940s Fat handle Tech with triangular lather slots + Pol-Silver SI
3 shaves close; very smooth; DFS+

Blackland Sabre L1 + Personna GEM coated blade
1 shave close; very smooth; DFS+

Feather AS-D2 + Pol-Silver SI
4 shaves close; very smooth; DFS+

Feather AS-D2 + Feather Hi-Stainless
2 shaves close; very smooth; DFS+

Gillette 1940s Fat handle Tech with triangular lather slots + Personna Med Prep
3 shaves close; very smooth; DFS+

Gillette 1940s Fat handle Tech with triangular lather slots + Gillette Perma-Sharp
3 shaves close; very smooth; DFS+

In my view, the 40s FHT bested the RR GC68-P, Muhle R89, Merkur HD 34C and the Feather AS-D2.

The ATT Atlas R1 did very well against the Edwin Jagger 3ONE6. I should use the ATT R1 a bit more often.

I will cover the Sabre next month.

A worthwhile thing to do.

GBerry,

I will be starting my journal over the next few days. I start my dental treatment today and will be room bound until Monday or Tuesday. I wish I would have started it earlier as you did. I have 6 months of catching up to do.

My list is so much shorter: Claymore Evo all month along with 5 very nice Flat Bottom Tech shaves that were nice and one that was horrible with the Kai blade because of my lack of DE technique.

I think you will begin to see patterns of progress. It makes things easier to compare. No need to hurry.

Cheers!!!

So... another mild/medium shave, even though it's September? Haven't seen what the theme will be for this month, though, so here goes something... my facial hair, I suppose.

Same combo as last shave, except for the aftershave:

Used the homemade Himalayan salt scrub as a pre-shave, before washing using Harry's Shiso soap
Frankenrazor time: Maggard MR8 monster stainless Steel handle mated to Charcoal Goods Lithe (mild) has
Persona Med Prep blue blade
Naked Armor Stainless Steel scuttle
Perfecto badger brush
Proraso sensitive skin pre shave & shave cream
Duke Cannon Cooling Balm + Bannister & Mann Citracuya under my nose
Used 3 passes: WTG, ATG, XTG. Cut myself under my left ear on the ATG

6/10. Pretty darned close all around, but a small nick under my chin + definitely overdid it directly under my nose, which got way too red for comfort. Hence the aftershaves I used. Not the best week of shaves, really.

Guh,
-Z
