August 2024 Gentlemanly Restraint Until Month End (GRUME)

Still in. After a brief and unhappy flirtation with a Matgicol blade, I'm back to FlyDears, and making a bit of an effort to get to know the Yaqi Final Cut adjustable. 9.9/10 for today's shave.

Soap: Saponificio Varesino Cubebe
Brush: Yaqi 24mm synthetic cashmere
Razor: GC.84 SB, Al Handle, Astra SP #5

Also still in the 10th. 1/3rd down, 2 to go!!!

Haslinger Schafmilch
Semogue Mistura
Guerrilla .54mm AL
Bic CP (2)
PAA Classico Bay Rum

Didn't love the Haslinger Schafmilch the first 2 times I used it. I let it sit for a month or so, and came back to it. Wow, glad I did. It is a top tier soap for sure.

I’ve had mixed results and responses to Haslingers. I used it for awhile, found it incredibly concentrated, a little went a long ways! But I also noticed it was so thick it was stopping up my razor. I had to work harder to rinse it out between passes. Then I was about to discard my blade because I was getting more irritation and an inferior shave. I tried switching back to Mike’s and got much better results! I still have an unopened puck of Haslingers which I will probably get rid of. Don’t know how I’ll use up the opened one.

I agree it is tricky to dial in. But the moisturizing effects on my skin are great. Also I can buff without irritating my skin considerably more than with other soaps.

Still in, No shave today. I will have a solid 4 days of growth for the first Tiger shave on Sunday.

While I did not shaved I still made good use of my morning. Left home at 8:30 am, came back at 12:30 pm after spending a bit of time at the local blood donation center. I wanted to give them blood, they kept giving it back to me. Turns out they were really grateful to just keep the Plasma and Platelets. This was a fruitful morning, got a $10 gift card to the local grocery store, a pint of Blue Bell Ice cream and some flowers. Just paying it forward.

If you folks have an hour or two to spare, give a pint of blood if you can. If you have a morning on your hand, go the extra mile they will be grateful

Day 10, 32.3% complete

Preshave: Hot washcloth
Soap: Saponificio Varesino Opuntia
Brush: Yaqi 24mm synthetic cashmere
Razor: Rockwell 6S R4, Ti Handle, Astra SS #1
Bowl: Turkish copper
Post-shave: Nivea Balm

I used Opuntia for SV Saturday. Tried an Astra SS (blue) in the Rockwell for a change. I got a reasonable shave out of it, but my impression was the same as the last time: it's a sharp blade, but lacking in smoothness.

All the rest of the kit was known good stuff.
