I've been fixing up some shopping list in Wiki lately and I would like to do the same for the one in the UK.

I see 2 pages for the UK shaving supplies in Wiki and would like to bring it back to 1 list.

How I usually do them is:

Online Shops (Shops from the UK)

Region/state/province/city
-List A-Z

What I need to know if how to split it so we can maintain it easily. Someone who will visit the UK should be able to find what they want quickly and those who are living in the UK should have a very easy way to find their local supplies.

We could split them like this Map
proxy.php

Or I could go with the big towns

Birmingham
-Shop A
-Shop B

London
-Shop A
-Shop B
-Shop C

Any thoughts? All input are goods even if you are not in the UK

Nearly lunch time in the UK... Anyone alive?

I think you should split them like in the map you show, not all visitors to the UK just visit the big cities, lots of other places to see, so would be useful for example if you were visiting Cornwall to know if there is anywhere nearby to buy stuff!!!
Good work by the way Luc sorry it's taken so long for anyone to reply:thumbup1:

Yay! A first reply!

Thanks mate, I will have a look at those, any other input welcome!

Hi Luc, sorry for the lack of feedback sooner. Using the map is probably easier for initial search, obviously some sources are nationwide...Boot's chemists and the supermarket chains particularly, but there are some regional spec1alists.

Hi Luc, sorry for the lack of feedback sooner. Using the map is probably easier for initial search, obviously some sources are nationwide...Boot's chemists and the supermarket chains particularly, but there are some regional spe......ts.

Stuff like Boot, I will list them with a generic list for each region. If someone visit a Boot in, let's say, York, they can write down the address in the region for that store and what they found in there. It will filter down the list and keep it out of another place like London. So when you search for Boot, if you are not in either (York and London) you won't have to scroll down until you find your own!

I don't know how easy it would be...but when creating the map, it might be worth breaking down the regions a bit. For example, you've currently got "Southern England and London", it might be a bit easier to navigate if you list London as a separate region.

Alternatively, rather than just the 11 regions (I know I'm counting Republic of Ireland even though it's not actually in UK), dividing the map into counties/major metropolitan regions might be more workable. I live in Scotland, but knowing that there's a stockist in Inverness isn't handy when I live in Edinburgh, it might be hard to convince SWMBO that we need to make a 8 hour round trip just for another soap! (although it might influence the route we take on our camping holiday this summer :sneaky2:)

In that case, it would be easier to break it as:

Britain
-City 1
--Shop A
--Shop B
-City 2
-City 3

Ireland
-City4

Scotland
-City5

As for a detour to get soap, just say you are getting milk and will be back soon!

To be honest the UK there is three types of stores

-Generic (boots, Super drug, etc) - you find them everywhere

-High class stores (House of frasier, Dingles, other big top notch department stores, also L'occitaine check there website for a store locator) - every city has a couple there impossible to miss but they will only carry top label stuff like floris if your lucky.

- Tiny wow spe......t stores (some have websites) - few and far between crop up in strange places.

The tiny stores are the ones that are worth noting down in this thread, I can tell you of three I know of in the South West.

Mcgahy Tobacconist - Exeter - http://www.the-tobacconist.co.uk/ - Has a very small selection of Vulfix Brushes, Merkur Razors & a soap / cream I have never seen.

Woodforde's Perfumery - Sidmouth - Doesn't have a website but info here http://www.whatsonsouthwest.co.uk/article.php?id=11912 - This place is suppsoed to be stocked to the hilt with Colognes Creed / Penhaligons etc etc, and the people in charge appear to know what there talking about. (I haven't been here yet but I am dieing to go).

The Abbey Pharmacy - Sherborne - http://www.theabbeypharmacy.com/ - Shaving supplies from all the high class brands.

Well, even if the list is short, someone like me who doesn't know the place wouldn't have a clue on where to go. If I get an address (Boots or small shop), I think it's all good as I don't have any of the two down here.

Also, there are a lot of gorceries over here, like Indian groceries that stock Indian shaving cream, I think those are good to list. Stuff like that.

Down here in wales we have the same with the leading stores etc, john lewis department store stocks good stuff as does the tobaco shop in cardiff eg brushes from £10 -£50, straight razors, strops, taylors/kent soaps/creams and a lot of de razors i have not heard of for £25 amongst other stuff, a chemist in monmouth that sell the complete tabac range so its quite varied and a bit everywhere.

I'll do what i can, i know of two down my neck of the woods.

Johnnys tobacconists.

54 Bank Street, Newquay, Cornwall, TR7 1AX, UK

Merkur razors, dovo straights musgo/tobs creams various brushes possibly vulfix.

The tobacco bar

126 Cornwall Street
Plymouth PL1 1NJ

Various selection of brushes, merkur razors and creams.

Hope that helps.

I keep meaning to have a look in Johnnys as I know he stocks stuff. The trouble I have is that if I go into town I can't go in there with the kids.

Nice work Luc, thanks.

If we find more Bricks & Mortar sources, should we just update/edit the Wiki?

That would be the easiest way! I can do it or you can do it yourself. The code isn't difficult to pick-up. Edit button is on the right side for each section.

Let me know if you need any help.

I didn't add anything (Things like Boots), I didn't add all the addresses otherwise I would still be there but we can add them as someone visit a specific place and list the specific supplies if they are different!:thumbup1:
