ATTN those that want to try straights

Consider this your warning---i haven't figured out if it's the blade, the hones or thse strops, but something is laced with an addictive agent. Sure they tell you you can still use your DE. Pfft...just wait...I'm trying to fight it but I am heading towards the exclusive straight said.

I'm in the same boat as you. I've used my Futur 3 times in the last four weeks when I've been in a rush. There's just something so damn satisfying about using a straight.

I even get a worse shave with a straight. It seems to be getting better though.

I have been dying to get my hands on a straight I just can't make a decision on a good starter straight and stop set.

My shaves are of similar quality it just takes me longer with a straight for now. I'm a mechanic so my hand and finger strength is probably better developed than some in other occupations, plus the fact I'm a lefty living in a righty world, I think this has given me an advantage in learning a new skill.

Manual dexterity is a plus, not only for shaving, but also for stropping and honing. However, those like me with poor manual dexterity can also succeed, though perhaps at a slower pace. I see guys on youtube skipping the blade across the hone at 90mph. NO WAY could I do that.

Waiting for my strop to come in. Thankfully, between violin fingers and nintendo thumbs, I have awesome dexterity!

I went from canned go and disposables right into straights and skipped the DE until I got one that came with a brush and stand set. It doesn't get much use though.

I used my straight for the first time today. I only planned on shaving half my face with the straight and use the mach3 for the rest.

Well, I shaved half my face with the straight...grabbed the mach 3 to finish the other half of my face. and then decided to throw it away.

Im sitting here with a half shaved face.(Im sitting in my house allnight, and ill finish shaving before I go out in public.)

I bought a Dovo Special from SRD and I really like it. I also tried to restore an old razor from an antique shop - its a big old wedge - I had it honed by a member here, but I can't seem to get it to work - the weight, angle, blade configuration atc are all very different from the Dovo I have, and it has defeated me every time I try it....

I stopped after I gave my self a horrific shave in the spring, and have focused only on DE's for a while....

I have been thinking about straights again for the last couple of weeks, and I must admit that I damn near pulled out the Dovo today and gave it a go again... maybe over the Christmas holidays.

I have been super-busy at work all summer and fall, and working a lot of nights, so mornings have been rushed for months.... there is no time to strop and shave - as I am a s l o w straight razor shaver.....

I've been itching to give it a go - I've actually wanted a straight since I was 17, but never been able to afford one, but seeing that I've spent a bit on other shaving gear lately, it'll have to wait a few months. Watching the forums closely on all straight-related talk in the meantime...

This is the next chapter in my shaving saga. As much as I want to go there, I feel I need more time behind the DE. One of these days though.:thumbup1:

I haven't tried it myself but this should be a reasonable starter kit:
http://ruprazor.com/store/index.php...category_id=6&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=32

and yes, it's addictive...:001_rolle

Heh, I ordered one of those, just hope it gets here before I move. I also picked up a couple of antique store straights which I'm going to learn to restore and hone on. Of course, I'm also eyeing off a Dovo Special as well...

But not before I at least get all the way through my 2 DE sample packs!
