What's new

Attention Williams Haters!

Poking fun at Williams is fun. And so easy to do.

A few days ago someone mentioned that they could not get a decent lather out of a high end soap. It's a soap that I use and love.

I truly believe that anyone with a bit of soap and brush experience can get a good shave out of ANYTHING with the exception of Cade Shaving Cream, Caswell-Massey, and many artisan/farmer's market soaps. (I still find it hard to believe that new English Fern is really that bad).

To prove my theory, I will be buying a puck of Williams and using it. I bet I will get a great shave, like I do with everything else. I know I'll hate the scent, but I'm guessing the shave will be fine.

After I use the Williams once and report my finding, it will promptly become my new bath soap.

Any other haters want to join me?

Nah, I'll let you have all the fun. :tongue_sm

I've tried it twice already, and regretted it both times. I even tried using SMFZach's method, which works for me on every other soap I've tried (even with Dallas water :mad3:), but doesn't work with Williams.

Hold the phone here...

Are you saying that you're a Williams basher, and yet have not even tried it??????

15 yard penalty, and loss of down....

I thought Cade soap was supposed to be a good performer?

Cade SS is a phenomenal performer. Cade sc is horrendous. That said the ss takes a bit of experimentation to get the ratio down properly, but its an excellent, readily available soap

Oops, I meant Cade shaving cream. Cade soap is amazing.

I've used about 4-5 pucks of Williams over the past 12 years, but none in about 5 years, and none since I joined B&B. But I smelled it a few days ago. It was as bad as I remembered. :(

Sorry, Goby. You are on your own.

I have tried to lather Modern Williams no fewer than 30-40 times over the last 1.5 years. I even took Williams for a spin for nearly an entire week trying to get it to work for me. Williams simply doesn't work properly in my hands. I can use just about any other soap out there, but for me Williams is absolute, and total garbage.

IME The water is the bottom line issue with Williams. That and Puck prep as my Grandpa called it. He would cover the puck with hot water from the Kettle on the stove before he took his bath. He said you have to soften Williams for it to work.

That's what I did, and I managed to generate mounds of mediocre citronella lather....

If you haven't tried it yet, have at it. It is neither as bad as its detractors claim nor as great as its proponents describe.

I have a puck of Williams right now and I had to shave off my goatee from a trimmer mishap and my chin hasn't felt a blade in 10 years. No irritation and my face feels fine today.

It most definitely is "as great as its proponents describe"!!

Williams provides awesome lather and protection for some great shaves.

I'm at the store now.
93 cents of bad soap
Bad shave here I come
