What's new

Attention Penhaligon's Fans!

i was going to pull the trigger on an Elizabethan Rose purchase but went with the Hammam as i couldn't pass it up based on the price. reading your review of it, i plan on picking up at least a small bottle of the Elizabethan Rose once i receive the hammam - i paid a week or so back and am just waiting on some type of confirmation that the bottle has left.

is the Elizabethan Rose a very subtle scent? i'm not looking for something very heavy.

While it does linger, I have found that it doesn't scream in your face. I can usually get most of the day with it progressively becoming weaker and near the end of the day, having to put my nose right on the skin in order to pick it up.

I've asked several ladies to give me their opinion of it and no one has ever issued a complaint.

The Blenheim Bouquet (in my opinion) seems to fade after three hours or so.

Can anyone confirm my experiences?

Same here. I love the Blemheim Bouquet, and have orderd it, but I seem to lose the scent by lunch. By the end of the day, nothing. It's such a wonderful scent that it doesn't bother me. It's not an everyday scent for me, so the short life isn't a problem.

As far as the LP#9, it's my second favorite from Penhaligon's (out of Blemheim, LP#9, Hammam, Quercus, and English Fern). It's not as complex or bold as some of the other offerings, but a warm and sweet scent. With my chemistry, the sandalwood is pronounced. Much more an everday scent than the Blemheim.

my sample of Blenheim Bouquet didn't last long on me either. if i would have to guess a time i would report "gone by lunch" as well.

Just curious...

How does someone come across such a large supply esp. of testers of a product that has rather limited availability in the U.S.?

Usually through a distributor.

They fell offa da back of a truck. Fageddaboutit.

Well, the LP#9 arrived and insofar as a blind buy, I ended up liking this one. I consider it something of a sweetish Drakkar Noir-type of scent. Somewhat dressy, but overtures not quite as elegant and refined.

Scents are such strange things. While English Fern is an "OK" scent to me and Endymion is not my favorite as it once was, I have found that Hammam has taken its place.

I still like the Opus rather consistently as well as Castile.

One thing is for certain, that I very much enjoy the transitional effects as these scents wear throughout the day. Right now, six hours after applying the Duoro, the cirtus scents are being replaced ("dried down") with the warmer, Oriential, spicey scents of the mid and lower notes.

That the scents change throughout the day is enjoyable for some reason. It's almost like wearing a watch and since I hate wearing watches, a perfect solution for me.

I grabbed an LP#9 as well; I'll be curious to try it out. Needless to say, it will wind up on my decant page for those who want to try it out.

I keep wanting to like the Hammam, but I just can't do it. Blech.

Strange, I am wearing some today. I've promoted it from the sock drawer to the shave shack. :thumbup1:

Scotto, how about trying the Hammam on your left wrist for 2 days, and sniffing it intermittently? This scent does grow on some wearers as an acquired taste, though perhaps it will not on you, but its worth a try for something so distinct and refined.
Regards,

I have to confess that the initial scent of Hamman does not appeal to me. This scent is initially a very pungent, bitter scent and reminds me of a beautician shop of ill repute (who said 'whore's handbag'?), but thankfully this scent very quickly fades into a flower-type, powder scent that reminds me of baby powder.

Who is wearing Castile daily? Does the Castile scent morph throughout the day as well?

I wore the Castile yesterday...as the scent does change a bit the neroli lingers way into the dry down. It lasts along time on me. I was still getting whiffs of the fragrance after 13 hours yesterday. Unfortunately the Hammam is terrible with my chemistry...I kept checking my arm throughout the day to see if it would get better but to no avail.

Am I understanding this right. If I want to send a friend of mine who lives in Canada some Cologne I can't say it's Cologne on the customs label? Are you supposed to not send it or lie? Tell me this is not the case. I was planning to send some 4711 to my friend REN this weekend. Then I read this thread. What's the story?

Canada has a law dealing with "Transportation of Hazardous Substances." Without attention to quantity, no matter how small, you need a special license, etc. to ship alcohol into Canada. I have an old friend living in Yellowknife and have been unable to even get Crabtree and Evelyn shaving cream to him. It would appear the customs laws are intended to halt traffic, not regulate or tax it despite NAFTA. I can understand the concern for truly hazardous materials, but shave cream or 1.7oz of cologne? Sorry, I just have difficulty dealing with it.
