What's new

ATT M1,R1,H1 vs M2,R2,H2

So, I am convinced about getting ATT's Atlas 5 piece set. With the recent release of the new OC set, my uncertainty now is which 3 plates to get.

Stan, based on thin out about my face, recommended to go M1, R1 & R2. This will be my very first OC razor. I have always questioned the "myths" behind the allegedly extra aggressiveness from an OC.

I know the ATT OC has been out for very little, and I have yet to read a thorough review on the comparison between their base plates and the new OC.

I plan on buying my set before 12/20. I would appreciate all of your feedback on how these compare and why not, your take on OCs.

I truly love (and they are my favorite razors) my Above the Tie 7-piece set. Some day, I will have the open comb set as well. The quality of the razors and shave is top of the line.

Atlas: 3 inch long spiral handle
Kronos: 3.5 inch long checkered handle
M=mild
R=regular
H=heavy
2: open comb
1: safety bar
My experience with open combs along with many others is that they are better if you haven't shaved for a few days. I do not have an ATT open comb.....yet.....

I have used the R1 daily since it first came out and really love it but I prefer OC razors and in stainless the Ikon does not do it for me (cast not machined and made in Thailand rather than America) so when the att OC came outI ordered it right away. I would say it is no more aggressive that the R1 just a little smoother , easier to rinse, and leaves some cream behind for touch ups as all OC's do. I hope this helps you and PM if I can help further

Haven't tried an ATT razor yet, but I will most likely order one after xmas. I'm thinking an R2 or H2 for when I have more than a days growth and then an M1 or R1 for every day. I'm finding I can pretty much eliminate ingrowns if I use a less aggressive razor solid bar razor with more passes on a daily basis and then use say my Fatip on Monday morning when I may be sporting more growth. I have several OC's and I find them very easy to use when I have more growth. I really don't need more razors, but if the ATT's are as good as I've been reading then they may become the only ones I need.

Kcee,

ATT describes a 30 day return policy in their FAQ. I wouldn't try to push you towards buying something you don't need; just an extra point of consideration.

Good point Jon, but I promised my wife I wouldn't buy myself any gifts until after x-mas. I KNOW my family is not getting me an ATT razor, but the wife worries I'll buy something she already got me.....it hasn't happened in 20 years, but I suppose there's always a 1st time and when that happens I'll NEVER hear the end of it. I can wait a few weeks! lol

this thead is doing absolutely nothing to help my will power... :)

Oh, yes it is. It is helping you develop the will power you need to buy an ATT razor!

I am working on building up enough will power of my own to buy an H-2 Atlas. I imagine that point will come right after Christmas (coincidentally, about the same time that GRUC ends).
