There was a thread last week regarding the Dollar General Twin Blade cartridges produced in Korea. They fit both the Trac II and Atra razors.

Since curiosity usually gets the better of me (and SWMBO's mother lives in a town that has a DG store) I asked her to pick up a package the next time she came to visit. (I am blessed with an outstanding Mother-in-Law!) $1.20 for a six-pack . . . 20 cents each!
I grabbed an Atra handle that arrived in a lot of razors last month. Hadn't shaved with one in years . . . and had no fond memories of the experience.
I've got to tell you . . . the Atra with the DG cartridges shaves like a million bucks!! I don't remember the Atra being this close, smooth, and gentle! No irritation or burn, just a near-perfect CCS!!! (At bedtime, SWMBO asked what time I shaved that day - my face was way too smooth for a morning shave!)
Now, in all fairness, there must be other variables at play here.
For example, I always used goo on a dry face and pushed the razor firmly to scrape the goo off. Always had an itch on the neck and under the chin. Shaving was usually done in a hurry. Later, when I grew a beard because I hated to shave, the same process was used to trim the perimeter.
Of course, that was long ago in a far away land. Now, proper prep, lots of warm water, proper brushed lather, a gentle hand, and a new-found joy that comes with the pursuit of a pleasurable few moments (in other words, our typical wet shave) actually make that old Atra perform WAY better than I remember it did "back then."
Oh, yeah . . . the DG blades aren't bad, either!!
