!st shave with the Atlas M set up:

I did my usual prep. The Proraso and warm water splash ( not cold water today). This week has been a bad week for my face, I had more pimples than a nervous teenager before Prom night. However, i was able to steer clear of all the pimples besides the one here,OUCH!
proxy.php

I also got a little bite next to the chin...

The razor M set up is very effective. I love to hear my whiskers being mowed down ( it sounds like the 2011 R41 little cousin) The first pass was N to S up and down. I hit a pimple but it did not gash it like a another razor would have. The Atlas glided above the pimple like a hockey player on ice, rough and tough but yet graceful and careful. My end pass was on my pimple ridden neck area. Again, the Atlas was shaving above the pimples but not slicing them. END OF 1st PASS.

2nd Pass:

Now , for my last pass ( Im a 2 pass shave man:001_cool:) This time I paid more attention, especially the pimple areas. W to E side to side. I felt like each stroke was an effective one and not just a going through the motions stroke. It felt like good quality passes even though i was not into the shave game due to my bad cold and many pimples.
My lather got dry so i did another moistened brush pass to continue my shave. It was a good surprise, i did not have the enthusiasm to shave so i forced myself and was truly impressed. The results were very gratifying, it yielded a Barbasol/Joris/ Stahly type shave:No irritation, cuts, and BBS.
To achieve those results on a 1st shave is good news to me. It means that the Atlas is probable great designed razor that is effective for my sensitive skin yet tough beard. However, I base my results and conclusions after several real life testing. So this review is still under experimentation and it may take more trials. Please be patient and thank you for your gift of time.

Tomorrow will bring a new shave day:thumbup:

I have had the Titan H1 since its release and liked is so much I bought the Atlas System and now I'm really in love! I use the R1 for everyday, the H1 when I really need a closer shave ans the M1 for when I need a 2nd shave in the evening. Its a great system really well made AND an American company

Nice Alex, I have the Titan H1 and Im pretty happy with it, Even though its Agressive its not Irritation Agressive, I get such a close shave with it even with just one pass im afraid the M1 wont work for me, but hey you never know ? Thanks for the Review ill tune in for more.

Guess what? Jim Loves me after all :001_wub:

I told you...we have the best Mods in the business.

I have been using my new Atlas for about a week now. I found that the Astra SP blade I used for one face and one head shave was great for that one shave only in my Atlas. The next shave on that used blade was rough and irritating. My best shaves so far have been with the Gillette Blacks. I also seem to get a better less irritating shave on two days growth instead of just one day. I think I might need to order the M base plate. I need more shaves to decide...

I have been using the M plate, so far it has performed well. I do have a bad cold and few cold sores with pimples so my shaves have been based on those factors too. However , the M plate/Atlas has just glided over the small mountain ranges like a small Cessna airplane. Tomorrow shall bring a better shave day. I hope:huh:

I love my Atlas, it is without a doubt the best razor I have ever shaved with. It is now my everyday shaver. I tried a Tradere, an Ikon and a Modified Progress prior to this and they just didn't work out for me. I'm holding off on the M plate until I have more shaves with the R plate under my belt...

Tomorrow, I have to bring Stan's Atlas back to him. It's definitely an extremely effective razor, probably moreso than nearly every other safety razor I've ever used. It has a very aggressive shave, efficiency wise, yet it feels much milder to your skin. The H plate shaves like nothing else I've ever used. The other plates impressed me less, but even the M plate is still very effective, without being irritating. That said, even with the mildest plate still has a higher aggressiveness to the skin than most vintage Gillette razors, so IMHO, it's a better razor for more experienced shavers, and not as much for newbies.

The Atlas H1 is the best razor I've ever used.

To add some perspective, I am not somebody that has to try the flavor-of-the-day. I am not a "fan boy", nor is my opinion of the shaving quality influenced by the fantastic workmanship or smart look of this razor. I did a lot of research and read a lot of reviews before buying the H1. I also sent questions directly to Stan. This was not a splurge purchase or one I made lightly. This was an investment in something I plan to use for decades.

Shaving is less of a hobby for me, and more of a luxury experience. I do not have the desire to own a lot of different razors. My goal has been to find the one razor that works best for me, and stick with it. I want a razor that is comfortable and shaves very, very close.

I have a very dark beard, coarse and tough, with whiskers like steel wire. My skin is very fair and sensitive. If I don't get a really close shave, I end up with an ugly dark shadow that shows very quickly.

I've tried the following razors: EJ DE89, Merkur 34c and a 37c Slant, a vintage Gillette Tech, 40s style Super Speed and a Slim. I've also used an R41. Contrary to the experience of many other B&B members, I did not like the Slant at all. I didn't find it aggressive. I thought it gave me a lousy shave. I also don't care to use shims in my razors - I prefer to use them as-designed. I did like my Slim, especially on the higher settings, but still never got as close as I wanted on my upper lip. The R41 did provide a super close shave for me, but wasn't as comfortable as I'd like, especially on my upper lip and neck.

The Atlas H1 shaves exactly as close as the R41 for me. Absolutely BBS, even on my upper lip. However, unlike the R41, the Atlas H1 feels surprisingly mild. With a Polsilver SI or a Med Prep, it glides along like a 34c or my Slim set on 5. Superbly smooth. Easy to find the right shaving angle. Lots of audio feedback, but no pulling, tugging or skipping. I can use Mantic's advanced shaving techniques, like blade buffing and J-hooking, with confidence and total comfort (can't say that about my experiences with the R41.) I couldn't ask for a better shave.

The true test of a close shave for me is how long it lasts before I start to look scruffy and see stubble and a dark shadow on my upper lip. With the 37c Slant, it was a maximum of 6 hours. With the Slim on a higher setting, it was 10-12 hours at most. With the Atlas H1, I get almost a full 24 hours. Amazing. Only the R41 has given me as many hours of that clean-shaven look I desire.

I know that there are some people here who say the H1 is too aggressive for them, or that the H1 shaves no better than a much cheaper razor with a shim. Perhaps that is true for them, as razor choice is a very personal matter. I do not claim that others will have the same great experience with the Atlas H1 that I've had. I can only report that this is the razor I use every day now, and that I've sold all my other razors (except for my birth-quarter Slim, which I keep for sentimental reasons.)

Given the fantastic money-back guarantee offered by Stan, I think the Atlas H1 is worth trying for anyone that doesn't mind spending the money for a beautifully designed tool that is made to last a lifetime. If you don't like it, you get all your money back. You've got nothing to lose, but may end up getting the best shaves of your life. That was certainly true for me.

Awesome review, Nick. I think I'd feel the need for the H and the R, at least.... but I'm not sure. I've watched you settle in to finding "your razor" and have appreciated your reviews and sharing. Stan's offerings are a bit rich for my blood just now, but maybe in the New Year, at some point, I'll invest!

Great Review Nick! My experience has been very similar trying to find that one razor. For me the Atlas with the R plate is it. I'm still looking for the perfect blade combination and I may try am M plate in the future, but I will not be searching for a new DE razor any longer! And just a note for anyone looking for an equally great head shave the Atlas has provided me with that as well!

@ Nick, Awesome Review, I feel exactly like you do about My Titan, It has made me sell off my user grade razors i use for shaving, I would like to try the R just for curiosity Purposes, but i dont think ill find a better Razor then the H1. I have a Cobra Classic Coming to me Soon from the Cibra Classic Tour Group, Have you tried a Cobra Classic ? How does it compare to the H1 ? Its a Totaly Different Razor because its an SE and not a DE.

Im Looking to get another Titan most likely and Atlas Handle with H1 Head or the R1 Head )

Just another quick comment:

Today I blade-buffed ATG on my chin and upper lip with a fresh Feather blade in the Atlas H1. Zero nicks and weepers. Zero irritation. Closest shave ever. The razor felt terrifically smooth.

I would NEVER have been brave enough to blade-buff ATG with a Feather in an R41.

Today's shave was actually closer than I ever got with the R41. BBS on my neck and cheeks in two passes instead of three. My shaves with a 37c Slant never even approached this level of closeness.

For such an aggressive razor, the Atlas H1 continues to amaze me.

Superb review Nick, one of the best written and openly honest ones yet.

Me too, I have only tried the M plate to date though. ( the R and H awaits)

It's important to note for posterity's sake that folks here have received a razor to try for free from a vendor. Members should be aware of that important fact when considering these reviews.

I purchased a Titan H1 (not a trial from vendor).

I have only had 1 shave with it so I can't give a detailed opinion/referral but the single (so far) shave I got from it was acceptable.

I do intend on getting the other 2 blade plates sometime (no immediate plans for this though)

That is not true for all of us. I bought mine. I was not part of the test group. I did my research, spent my money and ended up with the razor that shaves the best for me of anything I've tried. I'm also very careful not to claim that my results will be the same for everyone else or that someone who hates this razor is wrong. I'm trying to be very fair and honest with my comments.
