Astra SS

I previously tried the Astra SS when I ordered a 10 blades and liked it. Today I just received my order for 100 Astra SS, however, the packaging seems different from my sample pack, not just the box but the paper wrappings and there seem to be less wax than the previous one. The previous one, just like the SP, had double wrapping, a blue outer wrap and an inner white paper. The new one has only the white paper wrapping, without the outer wrap. I just shaved this morning so I haven't tried it yet and don't know how it performs. Any thoughts on these?

Without directly knowing, I think that you're alright with your 100 blade purchase from Bestshave. Bestshave has built quite a business with US customers, and has been very smart about how he's gone about it. I would be surprised if he would pass counterfeit or deffective blades.

I believe that I've read posts about more recent Astra Superior Platinum, green box, also no longer using the outer wrapper. This is certainly a trend as the most recent Personna red pack blades are now packed in a single wrapper.

Regarding the wax, most likely the wax dot machine on the assembly line might have been running a bit low as your run of blades went through.

I'm curious to see if you think that the blades shave the same - always the acid test. I'm a big fan of Astra stainless blades, so hope that the 100 pack works out for you.

I shaved with the Astra SS this morning, got a good shave, feels the same as the previous blade I used. I was worried the quality of the blade might have changed but it seems I'm wrong. I'm happy with my 100 pack purchase. I find the SS gives me a slightly better shave than the SP although both are fine blades for my use.

Because they have the same name I guess the blades have not changed except for the packaging and the reduced amount of wax on the blades.

I have gotten my Astra SS and SP blades from Bestshave also and they had the old packaging and the large wax spots that come very close to the edge. Which is annoying.

I hope you can confirm these blades are in fact the same blades because I am considering a bulk buy of the Astra SS which I like a bit better than the Astra SP.

Astra SS more comfortable and smoother then SP, yet SP give a closer shave. YMMV ofc.

I found the SS to be more irritating and rough than the SP. YMMV.
