Astra SP vs SuperMax Titanium

$images.jpegVS View attachment 334422

I had high hopes for the SuperMax Titanium at twice the price of the Astra because the SuperMax Sunrise (with "Titanium edge technology") is a nice blade. Some people say that SuperMax only makes four types of blades, but packages them differently for different markets. However, I now do not think this is the same blade as the Sunrise (nor do I think the Sunrise is the same as the SuperMax Super Stainless). While the Astra was smooth as butter, the Titanium was more tuggy and left my face stinging a bit more. I tested this in both an EJ89 and a Weishi. After 4 shaves I had to give it to the Astra.

This is clearly not scientific as I just used one blade to test, and it could have been a bad blade or bad batch.

bummer! I've never used one but the "titanium" really had me sold on giving one a try.

I'll likely still do so one of these days, but darn, hate reading a bad review about it before hand.

i dont find them fantastic but i can say they gave me a good shave. no real issues just maybe not as sharp as some are as not as long lasting. i have a very hard beard to shave and i had very little tugging but they didnt get as close as i like. otherwise not really bad.

Definitely didn't like the titanium version. I agree that it doesn't feel at all the same as the super stainless, and have never tried the sunrise model. The only of the SuperMax line I have really found to work well are the unfortunately vanished Super Platinum.

My guess is that those blades are coated with an economical variety of titanium aluminum carbon nitride. The Schick Quatro had this coating. Essentially the finished blades are placed in a gas chamber where the "titanium" is applied by electroplating.

Nothing special in terms of shaving. Makes the edge more resistant to rust, which is important in humid climates like in India, but not in dryer climates.

These coatings offer enhancements in corrosion resistance and hardness, and additional colors ranging from light gray to nearly black
