What's new

Astra SP Saga continues!!!

For those of you who missed my posts about the Astra SP heres a little backstory. My first DE shave ever was with an Astra SP and boy howdy did it mess me up! I revisited them recently now that my technique is a lot better and WOW. What an awesome shave! But now I am getting slight irritation and redness after the shave. I thought at first it was because I wash my face AFTER the shave with Nuetrogena Oil Free Acne wash. Idiot!!! I couldn't believe I didn't think of that sooner...today though I washed my face BEFORE the shave, and same result. Mild irritation and redness. I have one more option I am going to try. I was doing a two pass shave with Med Preps and getting a CCS, but curious struck me and I wanted to see if there was a smoother blade that would get me a little closer of a shave. thats what led me to the Astras again. I've been doing three passers with the Astra SP but tomorrow I'm gonna try a two passer with a Feather just for the hell of it and see what happens. I need a break from the Astras. Wish me luck!

If they keep irritating you why do you keep going back? I've found my perfect blade and razor combo (Merkur 23C and Lord Super Plat) and it never fails. I've a bit of a collection of vintage Gillete razors that I use now and then, and a bunch of blades from a sampler. I still expiriment with blades and razors but I know the above mentioned combo is a home-run every time. Keep experimenting until you find the perfect pair, and then take note of it whether you still use other combos or not. Don't think you have to revisit any item or that you owe anything to keep trying things after they fail. My advice - keep searching. If Astras give you BBS but you have some irritation you should rethink them, they're not the ones. Trying new things is half the journey.
