Astra SP or Shark chrome?

Hey guys,

I might get some of these.

Just wondered what most people like better?

Which would you consider sharper?

I'm going to be using in a slant if anyone is using that also.

I find these two to be very similar performers and like them both. I would give the Shark a slight edge in sharpness.

Astras for me are smoother and sharper. I cannot seem to find a Shark that I like.

The Astra is an all around better blade for me. I thought that Sharks were good blades until I tried an Astra SP.

I'm a newbie, but I bought a 100 pack of both. I'd assess the Astras to be a bit sharper, and the SSC to be more forgiving. I've tried 5 or so other, and IMO those two are my favorites. Get 'em both (maybe 25 of each?).

I actually found the Shark Super Stainless to be a slightly better blade. To my skin, the Astra SP start off a little more scratchy and I found Sharks to be slightly sharper overall.

I prefer the Shark Super Chromes. I use them in my slant too and they are great. I have 100 on the way as I type.

I experimented with both after purchasing 100 of each. I'm using the Shark Super Chrome as they do a much better job for me.

I'm in the middle of the same decision right now. I have been using Astra's for quite a while now. I really like them, but I get two shaves max per blade. I just trying the Shark's and I have to say the first shave was not quite as good as the Astra,but very, very close. The difference is I am getting five or six shaves per Shark blade. Even on the sixth shave while the closeness of the shave is not great, I still have almost no irritation.

I have tried a pack of both and prefer the Astra SP blades. I felt they were sharper and at least as smooth, but in reality they were very similar. My new pet bald is actually SuperMax Platinum.

I know its a YMMV thing, but I like the Shark Super Chrome blades. I get some tugging and irritation with the Astra Plats.

My vote is for the Sharks (SS). I just gave my last 50 Astra SP's away; sharp enough but too irritating for me.

I like the Astra's myself didn't care for the sharke at all. I do think iridiums or 7 o'clock yellows beat them both.

I find the Sharks somewhat smoother and just as sharp. I will be getting rid of my Astras soon, and plan on buying 200 Shark Chromes. As usual, YMMV.

It would be really beneficial if everyone who replied to this thread would indicate what razor they tried the blades with.

Astra SP- These are decent blades excellent sharpness, not the smoothest blades. I found these blades to be decent in my Merkur razors and 1959 Gillette Fatboy. I do not like them at all in my EJ DE-89 razor. The Shark Super Chrome in the DE-89 is a way smoother blade and IMHO is sharper than the Astra SP. I would have to say that there are a lot better blades out there than the Astra-SP. Astra SP are one of the cheapest blades on the market with a 100 blades falling around the $12 mark and that is about all I would pay for them. I find the Gillette 7'Oclock Green, to be a super smooth and excellent quality blade lasting easily 4-8 shaves. I find the Shark Super Chrome to be very similar to the 7'Oclock Green and slightly sharper. Can't go wrong with Shark at least in a EJ DE-89. They also shave excellent in the other razors I have listed.
