Astra Blue Blades

I just recently got a sampler pack. I decided to use the Astra Blue blade in my Merkur 32C razor because I had heard good things. It the best shave I had ever had with my DE. I had only used Derby, Wilkinson Sword and Merkur blades before without any luck. I cut myself a little along the neck. However, I always do and this time there was no requisite razor burn as I got from the others. I can't wait to try the Yellow & O'Clock blades next.

The blue pack Astras are very nice. A bit better it seems like than the more commonly found green packs. Glad the shave went well and here's hoping that the previous bad shaves were just your skin disagreeing with the three other brands. Guessing from the average of all the remarks in the forum, only a lucky few find Derby, Wilkinson or Merkur to be outstanding for them. Hard to forecast for sure but I bet if you like the feel of Astras you'll like the Gillette 7 o'clock as well. They have about the same feel and feedback for me, but just a bit smoother and sharper.

The Astra SS is an awesome blade. I think I may like it better than the SP.

It was great. This was the first sampler pack I got. I got the Derby's with the razor, the Wilkinsons at Wal-Mart and the Merkur at an AOS store. So this is my first really getting a chance to dabble in different blades. It looks like I will enjoy this endeavor. The pack has
Shark Super Stainless Double Edge Blades 5-Pack
7 a.m. Hi Platinum Double Edge Blades 5-Pack
Sharp Hi Chromium Double Edge Blades 10-Pack
Gillette 7 O'Clock SharpEdge Double Edge Blades 5-Pack
Crystal Platinum Chrome Dpouble Edge Blades 10-Pack
Lord Super Stainless Double Edge Blades 10-Pack
Astra Superior Stainless Double Edge Blade 5-Pack
Derby Extra Double Edge Blades 5-Pack
Gillette Wilkinson Sword Double Edge Blades 5-Pack
Laser Ultra Double Edge Blades 10-Pac

Any suggestions on which to try next?

I'm still relatively new to DE shaving. Then I have a course beard and my neck is very sensitive so I often turn my neck into a bloody mess. However, I think it was mostly a combination of poor blades and poor technique

Hard to say what to try next. You're going to be busy for awhile. It helped me to keep a shave journal to see what blade worked with what razor, etc. . .

Luckily for now, I only have one DE. I figured thats the best way until I get this one squared away

A good choice to keep as few variables as possible. I fell for the AD trap and bought a bunch of everything. But it has been - and still is - fun to try new combinations.
