ASB as Pre-Shave. anyone tried this?

According to B&B Wiki, there are three different ways to a better shave: 1) cushion 2) lubrication 3) skin suppleness. The first comes in the way of lather, which forms a barrier between the blade and your skin. The second is contributed to lather again. The third is contributed to good pre-shave oils that actually get absorbed by the skin and make it softer and more supple. The idea is that the more supple the skin, the less likely it is to being cut or nicked. This makes sense to me and if so, then wouldn't it make sense to use an ASB as a pre-shave skin conditioner? Why not just moisturize BEFORE lathering?

Ill be the first. Dont know if my advice will help you. Ive never tried it myself but it sounds like a nice concept. I wonder if it will break down the lather or harm the brush? Food for thought... Im not much on warm lather or shave. I CWS myself because the more "supple" my skin is the more I tend to get irritation.

I be a guinea pig on this. The only balm I have is nivera replenishing aftershave balm. So within this week I will try it, Iam off the next three days, I usually don't shave on my days off but for an experiment, I guess I can force myself to shave...

Only way to really know is to try it right?

Good question, especially since there are a number of products out there that are specifically pre AND post shave products (the much-loved Proraso being one of them).

How can a product be both you might ask? I suspect the reason is that post-shave products can be used without problem as pre-shave (and thereby double the consumption and spending). Someone with better shaving history knowledge will be able to confirm whether pre-shave products are a relatively recent phenomenon.

I've seen someone round these parts suggest using brushless cream as a pre-shave, specifically Alba Botanica.

I've actually considered using this as a pre-shave as it's really light and effective: http://www.albabotanica.com/face/moisturizers/refining-aloe-green-tea.html

Thanks all for the replies. I guess if I'm going to use an ASB as a pre-shave, I would shower/exfoliate as usual but then instead of leaving my face wet, I'd dry it and apply moisturizer/ASB as though I was not shaving. Then while I get my lather going, the moisturizer would have soaked into the skin and made it nice and supple. I would then wet my face, lather and get to it. I may try it tomorrow but not with AFB... I'll use a high quality moisturizer that's oil free so that I don't risk any clogged pores.
