welcome aboard.

My understanding is that the brush youre talking about is made by Plisson, which will help if you want to check out the reviews section

Thanks mdunn, but I think Plisson is a french company while AOS brushes are made in Germany.

Any particular reason for Art of Shaving? With a budget of $200 to $250, it might be worth checking out the vendors here. With that kind of budget you could easily be looking at a Rooney Finest, a Simpson's two band, custom Shavemac, or even a Plisson. The list goes on I suppose. Just curious with all the options, why Art of Shaving?

Generally speaking, most of the hardware (i.e. everything but soap and creams) at AoS is very overpriced for what you get... In some cases, their brushes may be sourced from the same vendors mentioned above but at a steep markup.

There are many a great vendor associated with these forums. It would be worth checking out before dropping $200-$250 on a brush.

The only one I have experience with that is in that price range is my Rooney 3/1 Finest. It's a great brush. Many might argue that they would use this brush over anything AoS. It was $209.

It's fairly well-documented that AoS rebrands their high-end brushes, and that Plisson had been supplying the top-end ones. I don't know if that is still the case, as it may have changed just a couple of months ago. If they are still carrying the rebranded-Plissons, check out the review section like MDunn suggested. Lots of good info there.

Some links to satisfy the {citation needed} crowd:

This guy got his at AoS, it just doesn't have the Plisson label.

See the discussion detailed halfway down the page.

See Yomuppet's post

Look for Richmondesi's post about them not carrying Plisson's any longer...

Best of luck sourcing info for your brush, in any case. Tons of great resources here for those looking for shaving info. Welcome to B&B!

I am not 100% sure, but I believe that AOS Silver Tip brushes are re-branded Muehle brushes.
Muehle, by most accounts, makes a fine brush.
The AoS mark-up on them is (to me) staggering.

With the budget you mentioned, you could get any number of excellent brushes that would be a better value.
Any of the above mentioned brands, or even a Muehle branded brush, would IMHO a better option.

I agree with the posts above - you can get better hardware at better prices using these vendors online. I'm about 3 months in and am using a $35 Edwin Jagger Best Badger Brush from www.theenglishshavingcompany.com.

It's great, lathers like a champ, and while I'm learning I doubt having a $200 brush would have made much difference to me, not to mention I think I'd be the type to prefer best badger over silvertip since I like a little bit more 'scrubbiness'.

Thanks Sueto. I'm now looking at the Rooney 3/2 finest! How long have you had yours?

I have had mine since October I think. I have been using it every other shave. It's an awesome brush. Something about their Finest knots is magical. A 3/2 is a hefty brush. I am sure that you'll find plenty of people here that have gotten finest and not been disappointed.
