Art of Shaving Pre Save Oil vs. Poraso NEW "White" Ultra Sensitive Skin Formula w/ Gr

I've been looking/ researching these two pre shave oils for sensitive skin.

The Art of Shaving Pre Save Oil and Poraso NEW "White" Ultra Sensitive Skin Formula w/ Green Tea & Oat Extract.

Does anyone have any hands on with these products, would love to hear about it ?

Do you recommend one over the other?

Thanks,

Dave

I have some AoS PreShave Oil that I received for Christmas. Don't like it much after my first time using it. Seems to gunk up everything and makes cleanup a pain. I only used it once so far, but didn't seem to enhance my shave at all.

I haven't tried the Proraso White yet, but am looking forward to trying it in the future.

I've never used the Proraso product you mentioned. I used the old pre-/post-shave cream they sold at Target many years ago. I have used AoS and found it's a solid pre-shave but a bit pricey for what it is.

You can ask for a sample at Nordstrom if you have one near you. They'll make you a sample-sized container of whatever scent you like. They even gave me a travel-sized bottle of pre-shave oil free and I didn't buy anything.

EDIT: As for what Jeff wrote, I agree it is gunky. I use much less than recommended because it is thick and sticky and can ruin your shave if you get stuck trying to scrape it off your face.

I use Proraso Green Tea & Oat pre-shave and highly recommend it. Other one you might want to check out is Shave Secret. I recommend it also.

I myself have not used the Proraso Pre Shave Cream but have been meaning to pick it up. I have however used both the Unscented and Sandalwood Pre Shave Oils, and although they tend to be thick, they do get the job done. What I have found, is if I apply the oil to a wet face with wet hands it seems to "cut' the oil and thin it down a bit, and I do not get the clogging issue that others get. I enjoy the AoS line in general, and as you only use 2-3 pumps of oil per time, it could be in your interest to pick up one of the $25 AoS trial kits. You'll get the pre shave oil, shaving cream, and after shave balm, as well as a "trial" badger brush. The kit also comes with a $25 off card towards a purchase of the full size kit. It will at least get you to try out all of the products for not too much of an investment. Worth a shot...

+1 on the Shave Secret. You can get it at Walmart for around $5.00. It says you can use it for shaving, but I have only used it as a pre-shave. The only downside is the smell. It smells like they put a pound of cloves in the little bottle, but if you can handle the smell, Shave Secret works great.

If the oil is clogging the razor you are using too much. Also, you can mix olive oil and castor oil and make your own. This recipe can be made for less than $10. Most people keep olive oil on hand.

Proraso white is awesome. Softens up your beard really well. I used it with the Proraso soap and AS as well.

The only oil I have used is Dermalogica. I got it as a gift.

Another vote for proraso white. I use it if I havent showered and it helps a lot. Havent tried AOS, but have tried shave secret and Pacific shaving oil; but prefer the cream over the oil because I just prefer the texture of it and the way it feels on the skin.

This thread has me somewhat misty-eyed; the very first wetshave product I ever purchased was the Proraso pre-/post- from Target. I had seen Esquire magazine pushing pre-shaves for a long time and finally found one that was affordable for me (at that time, anyway).

It was shortly after that I bought my first VDH brush and found this site. Haven't looked back.
