What's new

Art of Shaving is LOL

I went into Art of Shaving today because I was in the mall anyway and asked if they have any slant bar razors. The lady said "What's a slant bar?" Another sales rep came over and I asked to see any slant bars they had and after looking at me quizzically led me over to the straight edge display case.

I guess that's what you get in the mall.

Don't bother with the hardware at AOS. The salespeople aren't as familiar with it as they should be, and their prices are way too high.

The shave soap, on the other hand, is just about as good as it gets. No, it's not cheap, but its performance is absolutely top flight. I hope you grabbed some while you were there.

Welcome to B&B!

Their hardware and salespersons' knowledge may be a joke, but their soaps isn't. It's fantastic!

Everytime Im in Vegas I stop by the AOS in the Palazzo, there are a couple very knowledgable guys that work there. I had my first straight razor shave there and bought my first badger there as well.

what he said! I never look for advice or hardware from AOS but they do have some of the best shaving cream I've tried to date.

Haven't tried their soap, but their SC (lemon, in my case) is absolutely top notch. Salespeople are generally clueless. When I first started wetshaving and didn't know any better, I asked what's the difference between the cream and the soap. The response: "I dunno, I use the cream. I'm not sure why we even sell the soap". Nice.

its not just AoS try just about any other store in a mall that carries wet-shaving items and you probably will get looks like this

They don't carry the razor so why would they know about it? I'd say that most people outside of forums such as B&B wouldn't have a clue what a Slant bar razor is either. Heck, most people don't even know that DE razors either did, or still do exist.

True. The salesperson at Bath and Body Works asked me why so many people were interested in the green tube of shaving cream there

I found the AOS hardback book at my local library but in a nutshell it was less about how to shave and more about being a giant ad for their products. I have not used any AOS creams yet, still using The Real Shave Co.

AOS is okay because they carry good quality soaps and creams. They firmly believe in cartridge razors over DEs, so don't go in with any other expectations. They also carry straights and brushes, but expect to pay way too much for what you get.

Unfortunately this means they are still one of the best brick and mortar options out there for most folks for decent shaving stuff. Thankfully we have the internet and a ton of vendors who have great products and great prices.

That's what I get at Dollar General.

When I went to look to see what B&BW had a couple of weeks ago, I just asked where the "men's products were".

I've avoided their razors, etc. because of the prices. But I agree that their shave cream is very good. I've used the sandalwood and lemon.

What a salesman. That's too funny.

Hey Mark, its in the "Apothecary" store.

I went into an AOS store over the weekend and was amazed that I was the only male customer there. And no, I didn't buy anything while in the store...
