Art of Shaving Brush

Hey:

There is a review about the Art of Shaving brush that comes with their introductory package, not a good review either, but does any one know about their pure badger brush? The previous one is a "genuine" badger but the one that comes with the full size pack is bigger and is "pure" badger.

Thank you

I only know about the introductory brush. As far as this brush, The Art of Shaving being what they are, I wouldn't be surprised if is overpriced like the rest of their products.

I have the brush that comes with the large starter kit. This kit sells for about $100. I have been using the brush daily since I bought it in January of 2007. I think it is a fine brush, but to spend $50 just for the brush, I am not sure. As part of the kit I think it is a good deal if you want to try the other stuff that comes with it.

If I feel like it later, I'll post a picture of what it looks like after 2 1/2 years of daily use.

I think the AoS SS is as good as or better than any other ~ $20 soap around, except maybe DR Harris. The hardware is a different story.

Never had experience with actually using the badger hair on an AofS brush, but let me tell you this...

the AofS brush/razor handles are made like crap in my opinion. Cheap finishes and materials which proved to be right when I actually dropped one at Bergdorf Goodman on the floor. The resin handle shattered into 1000000 pieces. The sales man couldnt believe the product broke like that and said man....this stuff sucks. LOL

One thing I found interesting about AoS in the last year.

I bought the travel size (see: very small) introductory kit that runs roughly $35 bucks back in like April of 2008. I got the small oil, small tube of cream and small balm. However, I got the brush with the standard sized handle.

About 2 months ago, I bought my brother the same kit, only now the brush was more of a smaller fan, and the handle of the brush was considerably smaller.

Why would they shrink the brush size, yet keep all the bottles the same size?

I agree with Dennis's comments as it being worth it in the kit but on it's own for $50....., as I have that same brush from the large kit and mine is about the same age maybe just a couple months older it is still in good shape and I think it has softened up a bit as it was very scratchy to start with, but I have since acquired just a few more brushes silvertips so it don't see too much use anymore.

They have changed the brush in the large kits though, the new one from what I seen does not appear to be as good a brush, and forget about the brushes in the small kits there was a thread here about them a couple weeks ago and basically AOS now considers that brush a disposable only meant to last about a month or so.

I like there creams, soaps and balms but for brushes and razors you can usually always do better else where

The AoS pure badger brush is a perfectly fine brush with one exception: it's somewhat prickly, so not great for face lathering. Once you figure it out, you can whip up some great lather. That said, you can get more brush for less money if you search around. I now use a shavemac 21mm silvertip.

This was with the AoS Pure Badger and AoS Lavender soap. Hand lathered it.

I got this brush as a Christmas present from my kids, so it's a regular in my rotation. It isn't as soft and it lacks the loft of a higher end brush, but it works fine. I face lather with it, and get good results. It's particulary effective at picking up soap and never fails to generate a good lather.
