Recently been using some Arko soap but want to put in in a mug instead of having the stick. What is the proper way to do this? Melting? Grating?

Arko is pretty soft stuff. Just cut it up into "coins" and press it into a mug.
This, or if you have to then grate it - DO NOT MELT!
Arko is tallow based, and as such, should never be melted. You can mush it in a container by hand, or grate it and then mush it in the container by hand, or any other tool you have handy.
I got an Arko stick when I picked up a Wee Scot on BST here. I am not a fan of face lathering, so the shave stick thing was not my favourite. I ended up grating mine up and pressing it into a little bowl. I absolutely love it! Fantastic soap!

i put 3 sticks into a tin using the "coin" method. 3/4 thick at first. smashed more down in between, then thinner on top to finish the product off.
after a few uses, the thin "coins" began to look like old cracked peeling paint, and broke off.
therefore, i would recommend grating it down small to avoid this. or just avoid cutting too thin. good luck. im sure you will enjoy the soap.

Thanks for the help. Ill probably cut it in half and grate some soap in between. Hopefully keep the from breaking apart.
I just cut into slivers with my trusty Buck knife and pressed it all into a mug.

I just smooshed a whole stick into a bowl. No paring or grating was necessary.
I unwrapped the stick, then I used my hands to slowly push and mold the soap until I could press it into the bowl.
if you don't hold the grater just right, it won't work; arko is tricky.
