ARKO Stick - what's the scoop?

Received a stick today and was wondering as a newbie, how does one use it? I read somewhere, I think here, that one person shaves sticks on a cheese grater into a small bowl and presses the shavings with the bottom of a similar bowl with a piece of wax paper in between the two bowls.

So what can you all tell me first about ARKO and then sticks in general?

Thanks in advance.

Mike

I haven't used an Arko Shave stick, but with shaving sticks in general this is what you do:
1) you wet your face
2) Rub the shave stick on your face
3) use your brush to face lather.

if you dont want to use it for travel, then grate it up like you mentioned.

You can just peel off the top of the foil and rub the end of the soap on your face, then face lather with a brush. If you decide to use it as a puck, you shouldn't need a cheesegrater. Arko's soft enough to just mash into your bowl. Congrats on picking it up. Arko's a good one.

Arko is great soap & I happen to love the smell. i keep it in my permenant rotation. wet face, rub soap on face, lather with brush. Hope you like it as much as i do!!!

I like it and keep it as a shave stick. Shave sticks are crazy easy to use, I don't know why you would mill it into a bowl.

I really like to use my Old Spice mugs so I just slice off three thin coins of product and stick them to the bottom of a mug (or bowl). 2mm or so and you'll be good for a week, by the time you finish those off and get to the bottom you'll be itching to try another soap. Nothing against Arko, but I like my variety.

I just can't see grating whole sticks like so many shavers here do. They remain fresher in their original form. YMMV

I love ARKO for the performance and the smell. I do mill them into a bowl as i'm not a big fan of rubbing soap sticks directly onto my skin.

Must say I can't stand the scent, but for some reason I always have a stick of Arko here - it's dirt cheap in Germany (you pay around 50c for one), so it doesn't feel like a waste of money.

I know its been said before, but open the stick and put it someplace for a couple of weeks. The hit-you-in-your-gut scent is mellowed. I found as soon as I let it sit for a couple of week, the scent was definately much different.

Its grown on me and in my standard rotation now.

+1. Given a little time to mellow out, it becomes a different animal.

If you decide you want to put it in a bowl (I have three sticks in a bowl) don't use a cheese grater. Arko is extremely soft and you can push it down into the bowl with little effort. It's faster and more clean than grating it. Arko is a bit hard to grate (at least with one of the handle turning graters) because it kept clogging up and I had to unplug it (it's too soft).

I'm not a big fan of face lathering but the stick works well, of course, that way too.

+1. Its a great soap and dirt cheap.

Used it this morning actually!

When face lathering with a stick, I usually give the brush a couple licks with the stick after coating my face - kind of priming the brush.

+1 on Arko being a great performer, with an unfortunate, um, 'scent'.
