Arko Shave Stick

Received a Arko shave stick from Melyus. I was one of five lucky recipients from a pif.
I usually use MWF Soap or a Palmolive Shave Stick. The Arko SS is a phenomenal latherer. It makes mountains of lather with little effort. I always face lather and the Arko almost explodes into lather. Got a very smooth, irritation free shave using it with my current favorite combination, Futur on 3 and a Feather blade. Two passes and touch up and still had lots of lather left on the brush, a 20mm Vulfix pure badger, so not a huge brush. No stubble left anywhere and no stinging using the alum bloc afterwards. For the price I think the Arko SS is hard to beat. I probably will still use the MWF mostly but this Arko SS will be my second choice and first choice for away from home shaves. Great SS and thank you Melyus for the pif and chance to try it out.

The scent does have a rather "chemical, institutional air freshener" quality to it. However, the quality of lather more than makes up for that IMO.

Thanks for the write up. One of these days I'm going to get a couple of Arko sticks tossed in with another order of supplies...

The artwork on the packaging is so cool, I'd almost want to keep one unopened just for display purposes.

If you really hate the scent you better wait till you catch a cold , but the scent will be reduced to a fraction of its original in 6 months or so.

I love the scent btw; reminds me of pre-war Sunlight soap bars (which I have been using for decades since my grandma stocked them in '40 in huge quantities).

I have had a stick of Arko for months that I mashed into a bowl, but I have yet to use it because of the smell. At some point I am just going to have to break down and use it to see how it works. Now that I think about it, I am just going to have to use this on my Thursday night shave!

I saw Arko sticks on amazon for $0.99. It's pretty easy to take that on any order from amazon.

I got one for free when I ordered a 100pk of derbys. I opened it and tried it out and it was amazingly easy to lather up with. The smell... yeah... Good thing we have after shaves right?

Wow a case? I bet one stick if you used it every day would last 6 months or so. That's alot of Arko. Course it was still probably about the same price as one puck of MWF, and I think it would be quite good as and everyday soap.
You know until you guys posted about the scent I never noticed it. I just opened up the package and shaved with it this morning. Unless I stick my nose in it, it really doesn't have a noticeable smell. My brush still smells like MWF that I have been using exclusively. I have to admit smelling the Arko stick isn't that appealing and I much prefer the MWF scent but it's just a soap, not a aftershave so what the heck. It's kind of like witch hazel, not much smell but great results and very economical, hard to beat that combination IMO.

Matt, that is generous. However if they don't start wet shaving it is probably because of the smell of that shaving soap.

That is the spirit! I finally could get it locally again so I bought me the box too. Then after a few days, just to be on the safe side, I got me a second one...

I must confess that if it were more expensive one box would have been enough but for less than one puck of Tabac.....

The holidays are coming up... Arko Shave Stick stocking stuffers. I mean seriously, lump of coal for the bad kid is just not going to get the point across as well as the smell of Arko.

Just think, if Ralphie from A Christmas Story had to put a stick of Arko in his mouth instead of that soap, do you really think that he would have ever wanted that red ryder bb gun?
