arko in a mama bear container

I cracked open my Arko stick (complementary with my brush order from Rudy Vey ), and I'm in love. Awesome stuff. But storage is an issue, since I am using it for travel, and I've pretty much wrecked the wrapper.

So: after coming across this thread, has anyone successfully stuck a stick of Arko in one of Mama Bear's stick containers? How well does it work?

Thanks, folks!

Not sure about Mama Bear's containers, but the old Colgate metal tubes are way too small. It might work for half a Speick stick without the holder, but Arko is much thicker.

Williams put out a plastic shave stick holder many moons ago that holds an Arko stick like it was made to though. I've got one, it's kind of a marbled black/red plastic body with a white plastic screw-on lid.

Pill bottles work great..

I noticed that suggestion on the other thread. I may try that first, but I don't know if the Arko has a small strip of wrapper or foil or something onto which I can hold the stick once all the wrapping has been removed. That's part of my desire for a good container, too - like me, this stuff is slippery when wet.

If anyone has an extra one of these, I would be happy to take it off your hands :biggrin1:.

Should work fine if you do something similar to these instructions: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showpost.php?p=286260&postcount=1

I had a Taylor of Old Bond Street Shave Stick which came with a nice looking dispenser, but didn't work, into a QED container. It is a bit softer than the Arko shave stick so I didn't have to go to such extremes, but it worked out nicely.

Ah yeah, the softness is what I was wondering about. I was hoping not to have to mill it...It'd be nice if I could just stick the shave stick right into the holder.

Thanks for all your thoughts, fellas.

ARKO can be smushed into anything you want it to go in. I have a old wooden bowl I use for work and at home I have it in a shave mug. By all means use what you think works best. Some don't care for the smell and want something that the air can get at to mellow out the scent. If you like it make it a little more air tight. Good luck and enjoy the ARKO.

I've done it, it worked but after a while the little threaded stem in the container I had broke on me. I think it has less to do with the arko soap and more to do with the fragility of the stem and my own carelessness. So to answer your question, yes it seems to work fine, just be careful with the container and don't twist it too hard or too fast.

This has been my experience as well. I'm on my second stick of Arko. The first time I forced the stick into a cleaned-out deodorant container; this made the sides of the container bow outwards and strips of the soap were scraped off the sides. When I finished my first stick, I decide to smush the soap into an oval shape while it was still in the wrapper and then push it into the container. It worked beautifully.

You could always do like I did. I just taped the seam on the wrapper and cut off the top portion of the wrapper. It works well enough.

Arko is pretty soft. You shouldn't have any trouble smushing it into a container if you wish to do so.

I use the the same tub as honeybee soaps. It's basically the same tub as mama bear but with a white lid instead of a black. You can get them HERE.

I have used shave stick containers like the ones from Mama Bear's for my Arko sticks. I haven't had any problems with them at all.

I twist the bottom "cup" all the way out and mash the Arko stick into it. Then I put the whole thing back into the container and gently twist the soap and cup back down into the tube. So far I haven't had any issues with the spindle breaking.

I purchased two different sizes from http://www.elementsbathandbody.com/Twist-up-Tubes-c-132.html. The 2 oz size can handle a whole Arko stick. For the 0.75 oz tube I cut an Arko stick in half and use these for my travel kit.

Thanks! I think I'll probably still buy from Mama Bear, but the "filling" tips are really helpful.

If you have a walmart near you, I would pick up some pyrex bowls with plastic lids, they come in three packs.

I see that the tubes ca be purchased on the link provided but the shipping is $8.00. Am I wrong? Kinda steep.

I haven't done an Arko stick in a Mama Bear but I have done it with a La Toja stick and it works great. The Mama Bear container you are referring to is the one with the twist bottom, is it not?
