Aristocrat

Bought my first Aristocrat here at B/S/T and I am very pleased. I had my first shave with it and was quite surprised how much different the shave was for me then with my other Gillettes. None of my Gillettes are bad they are all quite good, the Aristocrat however went to a new level for me. Very, very comfortable and smooth yet cut through my beard easy and fast. For me it didn't take much longer to achieve BBS then with my Injector. I'm now very proud to now be part of the Aristocrat owners group and I understand what the fuss is all about.:biggrin1:

If you think the Aristocrat gives you a good shave wait 'til you get a chance to try a Diplomat! One of my top two favorite razors!

Aristocrats are great razors IMO - nice weight and balance and a good blade angle. Get the job done but still allows for some slightly off angle manuvers without slashing your cheek. I am slowly shifting to "all silver" which is proving to be a slow (and rather expensive!) activity. The President is my current Aristocrat equivalent but in a rhodium (looks like Rh anyway?) finish.

I love the 40's Aristocrat as a shaver. The epitome of the non-adjustable TTO razor, IMHO. The gold plating does not hold up well over the years, but that does not affect the shave at all.

Hmmm, I may have to try to acquire the non-gold versions as suggested in this thread!!

I have an old gold plated Aristocrat (closed comb).
Back when the "Swedish Gilette" blades were available I used them exclusively and got really nice shaves with it. I did have to make a few passes as opposed to one pass with my Futur, but the end result was a smooth enjoyable shave.
Now that the Swedes, or more accurately, the Polish Gilletes are no longer available, I have been having trouble finding a blade that works as well.
So far only the Super Iridiums work as well as the old Swede/Poles, and these are still a little hard to get.
Any suggestions??
Thanks,
Mike

Yes. The 40's Aristocrat is indeed the best a man can get. I can shave in directions on my neck that I can't do with any other razors. The level of closeness vs. no irritation cannot be matched for me. I even sold one of these to myself yesterday on the B/S/T forum.

For a long time, the 46-47 Aristocrat was my go-to razor. It was a revelation to find a razor that really "worked" with me. The Aristocrat made the pleasure of DE shaving a real joy.

Then the British #66 came into my life. Sigh! It's like shaving with butter.

Have not had the pleasure of shaving with a Diplomat.

But it does go to show that it doesn't hurt to try some new things. And it shows how lucky we are to be able to still find and use these fine tools.

Why do you feel the Diplomat is better? Is there something different about the razor itself which makes it superior? It looks like the heads are the same from pictures. I'll have to wait until I get home to compare them side by side.

You know it's tough to explain. They look the same, though I've never taken the time to actually measure them. I like both but prefer the diplomat.
