Aristocrat #?

Thats what I thought but checking with Mr Razor his #15 has no end caps! Logo on case is also different. But could be a variation?

Its a 1938 (ish) #15 British Aristocrat in the correct case. I have 2 exactly the same. Nice to see they are worth so much........:thumbup1:
The '36 has no wings on the blade bar the later ones have wings.

I knew someone here would have the answer. It was the wings that threw me. I have to say I love my Aristocrats #'s 16,20 and 21. But shows you learn something new every day. As you say getting pricey. Glad I have mine save and sound in the 'den'

Very nice razor, too rich for my blood unfortunately.

The rhodium razors especially are going up in price, i seen the same one i purchased going for around 4x as much.

Gather you have a few, I am still looking to fill a couple of gaps but think I am going to have to pay major money. I am looking for an Anglo-American one. But have more chance of finding hens teeth.......:biggrin1:

I think a member here recently managed to get hold of an Anglo-American (CopierGuy, Mark?). He said he had been looking for ages. Rhodium Aristocrats are getting pricey so took the view that the #15 and #20 are similar just different cases - well thats how I squared it and saved some money after all it is only Jan 10th and Christmas has only just passed:biggrin1: Hope a member here got it.

This one didn't have end caps either. Was it the wings you meant here that you and missingskin already sorted out?

I really wish we had something to help us sort out the price change from 15 Shillings to 29 Shillings. At least as late as the end of 1939 Gillette was still advertising the No. 15 set at the 15 Shilling price (see below). But at some point they clearly changed the price to 29 Shillings as evidenced by this set, my own No. 15, and more than a couple others that we've seen here. One particularly interesting thing is that the Anglo-American Aristocrat was apparently also sold at that same 29 Shilling price. All of that really has me seriously doubting the idea that production of the open-comb No. 15 was stopped by the outbreak of WWII, and that when they started production again it was with the guard bar.

My own theory is that the price was probably raised immediately after the war when production resumed, and that there was some period of time right after the war where they resumed making the open-comb version before switching over to the guard bar completely. But I sure would love to find something in print that showed the 29 Shilling price...

Hi Porter

What I meant was that side on the one on the bay is different to the one on Mr Razors site and your advert. ie it is open. If that is the wings then yes missingskin clarified it for me.

Wait, now I'm confused. Neither Achim's nor the ad above nor the one in the auction have end caps. The end caps would cover the lifting arms on the sides of the head so you wouldn't see the gap between them. The "wings" are the little tabs on the ends of the blade positioning bar that's inside the head. You can't see the wings in the ad above since the head is closed, but they'd be there as they are on Achim's 1938 No. 15.

I think the one on ebay was in an American-Anglo case as they were 29 Shillings?

No. The box for my No. 15 set (below) also has the 29 Shilling price printed on the bottom.

Sorry everyone I meant wings. But am I correct in thinking that the one that was sold today is different to the one on Mr Razor's site which led to my initial confusion and the reason I started the thread!!

It's the different from the earlier versions of the No. 15 razor that Achim's got (first image below), but it's the same as the later No. 15 of Achim's that I linked to above (and is the second image below).

Different - Without wings

Same - With wings

If they have a pair I'll have the other!

Not me but somebody did, not sure if it was Tom or not - try a thread search. There is a couple in the hands of members - but only a couple.
