What's new

Aristocrat #21 and ( different ) case ( and some ???s )

Wifey stopped to look at couches today and I just happened to see a little antique shop across the road.

Look in the most likely cabinet and the first thing I see, an Aristocrat in a silver case with instructions !!!!

Very dirty and very green but has a lot of potential ( especially for the price )

Haggle the lady down a bit for cash and it's mine. :biggrin1:

Getting back home and find out it's a #21. Did some research and it appears that most #21s came in a blue case , and that the case I've got looks like it's from an Aristocrat. Further research shows however that there is a number of #21's with this case, perhaps too many for it to be a simple mismatch. Any comments?? I've found at least three occurences of #21s with this case.

Does anybody else have a #21 in this case ??????

Cleaned it up and it looks pretty good however there's quite a bit of pitting on the edges of the silos and the safety bars.

Has the normal marks around the base of the TTO like the other non-mints I've found on the web.

What is normally the case of this sort of pitting ?? Especially considering it's a Rhodium plated razor.

I'll have a shave with it tomorrow and if I like it it'll become my everyday shaver and I'll put my current everyday almost minty #16 away for "special" occasions :biggrin1:

Fidjit. I've had it with you :mad3: be prepared for (Red) boatload of RAD Mainlanders. great score. you are making me ill though :tongue_sm

You suck! Just kidding of course, but each time I go looking for a razor all I find is cases of junky old super speeds!

we ALL need to move to Tasmania. Lots of old money there which means lots of old collectables found in 'junk' and charity shops.

Ian. the case looks a match. pitting etc i'd say wear, rubbing, humidity and damp.

Dunno if I'd come down now, too much H1N1 down here...........I'm sure that it's transmitted by taking old Gillette razors out of their natural Tasmanian habitat !
( That's my story and I'm sticking to it )

Shaved with this morning ( with MWF )

Noice !!!!!

The tarnishing has no effect on the shave.

Shaves very much like the #16 but perhaps a bit less agressive ( though still being a bit of a newbie, I could just be imagining it :biggrin1: )

Fidjit... check out this ad on mr-razor's site. Is that a No. 47 Popular set you just got?

Thanks Ed,

#47 is an open comb , this isn't.

That seems to be the general consensus on the board that it's a mismatched #15 case with a #21 in it.

However I've found a number of #21s in this case on the web. Note that this case is red/purple inside unlike the #15 case which is blue, and also just has "Safety Razor" not "Aristocrat" on it. Surely it can't be that much co-incidence to have multiple mismatches......

Wondering if it's not a country specific config ? Trying to find evidence that it is a matching case and razor so we can fill in more of the "Numbered British Gillette Chart " :biggrin1: as so far we can only say for sure that the #21 came in a blue leatherette case based on examples and ads.......

If I can prove this is a valid configuration and contribute that that post I can feel like I've given something small back to the site.

As a newbie it's just so confusing :biggrin1:

it's a 21 and in a correct case. I don't doubt Taz (Fidjit) will be the owner of a 15 as well as a 47. there is no emoticon suitable for you Fidjit ...... so I'll shake my fist and channel Colonel Klink or refer to "Red Dwarf" for the appropriate comment

I have one in that case as well. I also have one in the case achim posted, and another in pretty much the same case you pictured but with a leather covering on the outside.

Thanks Achim. Like Scotty, I have seen them in both....but obviously in Australia. My barber has a MINT collector-grade set from original owner. They paid $70 and won't sell or trade. It is on display in the shop.

I have a #21 in the first type case I just picke up from a B&B member, absolutely mint razor...case is a little shabby but that was declared up front, but I don't shave with the case:laugh:

I have yet to shave with it, saving that for tomorrow with a new blade. Are #21's aggressive? I have a Jnr and it is fone with most blades.
