I'm guessing the merits of fans and bulbs have been discussed/debated/argued in the past, but since I recently began to replace most of my bulbs with fans, I'm curious to know what others prefer and why. For instance, I think fans use less soap/cream and distribute the lather more evenly than bulbs. Of course, I have no evidence to support this other than my own subjective experience. So what's your preference, assuming you have one - and why?

I have both and enjoy both, I have extreme fans too (flat tops), all are great, I don't care for pointy bulbs though...

In all my brush collection, I have only 1 fan. It's not that I don't like them, it's just that I probably haven't used it enough to appreciate it. Plus I bowl lather a majority of the time, and have great luck using my bulbs.

I'm a fan of the fan.
Some fan shapes are quite flat and some bulbs are quite....uh...bulby?
Between the two, I prefer the fan or at least the more fan like shape.

I like variety in my shaving experience so I have several shapes ranging from tight bulbs to extreme flattops. I enjoy the fans and find that there can be quite a difference in feel in fans from the different manufacturers. This is true for bulbs as well. I find that some work better or are just more fun to use with different products.

Regards,

Doug

Same here, pointy bulbs are just uncomfortable to my face. Hybrid fan/bulbs are probably my favorite type

It doesn't really matter to me if the loft is set correctly but as a general rule 2 bands= fan, 3 band= bulb.

I generally prefer the fan shape and this one gets my vote, but it really depends on the brush and its overall design. I love the bulb shape on my Chubby 2 Best and on my Shavemac 177 Silvertip.

Fan for me. Need to try some other bulb brushes. The only one I have is a Simpson Commodore x2. I don't like the feel of that brush at all.
