Are most glycerin soaps melt and pour?

I'm not sure how they're made, Matthew, but I understand all glycerin soaps can be melted by us and poured into a container, and that we can add scents to them during this process. I've melted the VDH soaps in a microwave while they were sitting in an empty Art of Shaving cream tub. Made a very nice container for the VDH until it was used up. Next, I'd like to do that again and pour some EdT or EdC into the mix while it is melted and see if I can make my own scented glycerin soap. I'd like to try this mostly because I have more EdT's than I really need, and I'm curious.

It's has been my understanding that melt, and pour is a concept mostly used by "homemade"/ small batch custom soap makers, as it simplifies the process of making the soap.

I would be hard pressed to believe that a large scale producer like VDH is not making the product from scratch, instead of buying a pre-made soap base.

Not all melt and pour bases are created equal, which is probably what leads to quite a wide variance among custom soaps that seem to share the same ingredients.

Just don't put too much EDC in, because they are mostly alcohol, and alcohol kills a lather. This is why most people who do this use essential oils, instead.

Also, rather than starting with VDH, you may want to start with a fragrance-free soap like the ones sold at brambleberry.com.

Great advice, thanks! (Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread, mretzloff)
