Are blades better than others

Hi all, since I got my razor last year I have been using the cheap $1.99 blades I can get from WalMart. Are the other blades actually better, is there even a difference?

Thanks!

There is a big difference between how different brands of DE baldes shave. Are they better than the wally world blades?...only you could answer that.

I'd suggest purchasing a sampler from one of the vendors here. If you've been shaving for a year then your technique should be pretty sound. Pick up Astras, Feathers, Personnas, and any others. I think you will notice a huge difference.

Oh and welcome to B&B!

Yes, however, the best blade is the one that works for you. Merkur , Derby and Astra are the worst blades ever, however they seem to have a following here.

Let your face be the judge.

You mean the outrageously expensive $1.99 WalMart blades. I can get 100 very nice Rapira or Shark brand blades from bestshave.net for under $7, plus not-very-expensive postage from Turkey if you can't meet their free shipping level. You can get Astra SP blades for about $9-10 per hundred off of Amazon, and Astras are about the most recommended blades on B&B this year (I use and recommend all three of these brands of blade).
