Apple hires CEO of Burberry to run retail operations

"Apple is hiring Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts to lead its retail business, choosing someone from a fashion brand rather than from a consumer electronics retail chain. Ahrendts will be joining Apple in a newly created position as senior vice president of retail and online stores. She will be a member of the executive team, reporting directly to CEO Tim Cook, Apple announced on Tuesday."

As someone who has no dog in the fight I have a real question about this. Reeks to high heaven of heritage branding and creating an "experience " which Apple already does pretty well.

Cheers, Todd

She seems like a good choice to run their stores, but I wonder what her real interest is unless it is to potentially become CEO of Apple one day as has been speculated about. I know nothing about her abilities and I have no dog in this fight either, but to even hint that Apple is more about style than technical substance would be a bad direction to head off into IMO.

I wouldn't mind more Apple stores. There actually used to be one in my area back in the old Macintosh days when Apple had the rainbow logo. So odd that a company that size (much much smaller back then) would say "yes, that particular area in west London looks perfect!" Now it actually would be. Now it's a Sainsbury's local. Can't remember who had it before.

I am not a fan of Tim Cook. He is a square; nothing original or exciting about him and the products will reflect that. His plan is to make Apple his by changing the look and feel of the products and stores that took Jobs a long time to establish. I and many others are disappointed with the performance and look of the latest phones and OS. I think Apple will decline as long as he's the CEO.

The iPhone and iPad were revolutionary, but both have grown stagnant, IMO. I love Apple products, but my first smart phone was a Samsung Galaxy S4.
