AOS vs Tabac

Other than the scent (which is a controversial matter), how does Tabac compare to AOS? I love AOS soaps, they don't irritate my skin ---the tallow is amazingly creamy---and I am just wondering if Tabac is sufficiently better to justify a purchase. If there isn't much in it, I won't make the investment.

As a side note, I understand that the Tabac soap has a slightly gentler scent than the Edt. Is this the case?

Thanks for the help!

Cant say anything about other Tabac products sorry but SHMBO and I adore my Tabac shaving soap puck. I find myself smelling it as I walk past it many times a day

Tabac is a good deal cheaper. I love Tabac, but my unscented AoS is till my favorite soap. I figure you should give Tabac a try; you can get it for like 14 online! I have sensitive skin, and Tabac doesn't bother me.

Try the Tabac. I won't tell you it's better than the AOS that you like, but Tabac is one of the best soaps available.

In terms of performance, they're very similar. If anything, Tabac might be a little better - it's even easier to lather and is an excellent soap all around. The main difference is in scents. AOS soaps in my experience (I have the lavender and sandalwood scents) are extremely subtle in comparison to Tabac. Tabac has a strong scent that, as you mention, turns some guys off. If you're curious about Tabac, I think it's definitely worth trying it out. It's an excellent product.

i had a dream about AOS last night..i couldnt get it to lather at all..it was like trying to make cream with sawdust and water..weird since ive never even used any of the AOS line. am i seeing into the furture? lol

Tabac is just really, really good. That is why the vast majority of B&B endorses it. Really the only complaint I have ever heard about Tabac is the scent. To top it off a HUGE refill puck is only $10.

I enjoy both Tabac and AOS. The performance of each product is top shelf.

I love them both, and I not only keep both AoS and Tabac in my regular rotation, but I have back ups for them both as well. Tabac is about half the price of AoS, but it performs in the same, upper tier league.

If you like the scent (as I do), you can't go wrong with the Tabac SS. It is one of the great pleasures of wetshaving.

OK. You have me convinced. I will take the plunge....

Let me ask you this....

Does the scent linger post shave? I really don't mind what it smells like during the shave. I just don't want to be stuck with it the whole day....

I love the aroma, so I always use it in concert with the ASL and EdT, which do last all day.

I would have to believe that whatever you use post-shave will overpower any lingering scent from the SS.

Enjoy!

Is there any soap that has a really lingering fragrance? I wash my face after shaving and, by the time I'm done splashing all that warm and cold water on my mug, the fragrance of the soap is not much more than a memory. Certainly nothing that would survive a nice AS.

 My point exactly!

Right you are, then. I will take the plunge. Many thanks!

BTW, SWMBO tells me that my AOS Sandalwood Soap does linger on me for an hour or two....and she loves it....

I will say, if the scent of Tabac doesn't blow your socks off at first, be sure to give it some time.

I was less than thrilled with the scent at first, but per B&B folks' advice I gave it a solid weeks use. It grew on me to say the least, and it's now my absolute favorite all around.

By performance they are equal, but different.

By scent I would take AOS Sandalwood over Tabac, but meh to the rest of the AOS line.

By cost no contest! Tabac!

I hear great things about AOS soap but I haven't tried it.

As for Tabac, IMHO
--it performs exceptionally well
--it doesn't smell that great, but it's not as bad as people say
--the scent doesn't linger.

Tabac lathers more readily than AoS does for me, and I'd rate the quality of the lather I get from each to be about even.

Thanks guys...

I just ordered some Tabac for $14.99. Looking forward to it...and I will give it a fair shake, using it for several days/weeks to see how it really works.

I have in the past given up on a particular soap/cream too soon, finding myself rediscovering it several months later. Bad mistake!

I also understand that with use...and if you leave the lid off... the scent dissipates over time, becoming a more benign, generically "soapy" affair.

Cheers!

Jim
