AOS still tallow?

Sorry to ask a stupid question, but I was going to order some, and I read the description on their page, and there was no mention of tallow. Instead it said something like:

"Formulated with glycerin and coconut oil,"

The tallow is still there. The description is marketing speak. Do you really think they'd sell to a person who is completely new to wetshaving if they said "formulated with pure beef tallow"?

There was a post about this a while ago.

Basically, they do not mention tallow because glycerin is moisturizing and coconut oil helps with lather. Tallow retards the lather, but makes it creamy. Why list it when the average Joe would not care about it?

It's not a stupid question; it gets asked every so often when a tallow lover reads the AOS website.

The answer, is yes, it's still tallow. Apparently the tallow thing is not as big a draw for the general public as it is for us shave geeks, so they don't put it in the description on the web site.

Makes sense. Figured thats what it was. But couldn't find a thread about it. Maybe Jim can add a note to the tallow compendium.

I'll be interested to see what P&G does to some of these formulations once their marketing machine gets through with them.

The soap is made by Valobra in Italy. I doubt the formula will change unless PG decides to subcontract the soap to another company. Personally, I don't care because I don't use products with tallow in them myself.

More tallow for the restofus!

AOS SS is still tallow-based (1st ingredient), and it is still one of the very best shave soaps money can buy.

Not only is AoS a tallow based soap, it's one of the better performers out there. Only point of note is that it seems to have a slight odor which I have not noticed with other tallow based soaps. It may be because the lemon scent is subtle. It does not prohibit me from loving the soap & I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a luxurious shave.

Damn forum full of enablers...

I've already got 7 soaps that are 90% full... How much more can my counter hold!?
