AoS Sandalwood Cologne

I'm interested in y'alls thoughts on AoS's sandalwood cologne. I'm a very masculine kind of guy that likes very masculine smells. However, I'm fairly new to colognes, so I wanted some help.

Initially, I thought this cologne was magnificent but a little feminine because it was almost on the floral side. So my thoughts were that I loved the smell but I wasn't sure if I wanted it on me. For those who've tried it, did it smell very masculine to you?

I thought it was ok. It seems to be pretty much just straight sandalwood. I didn't get any floral notes but I felt it was almost boring as a scent. However, it's not feminine, nor masculine really, I'd say it's pretty firmly gender neutral. Although being a product from art of shaving I doubt many women are going to be purchasing it for themselves. It has decent longevity but I don't think it projects at all. I have to smell my skin where I sprayed it to notice anything. Almost smells like a less sweet Kanon norwegian wood.

I also have the sandalwood shave soap, aftershave balm and preshave oil. They all smell pretty similar, I like them ok but I'm not excited about them.

James... you need to lighten up on the whole masculine thing. If you like it then wear it. Screw what others thing. Be a man who makes his own decisions.

Sandalwood is something from wood, and so is eucalyptus. You'll notice that most masculine scents have lots of woods or leather in them, and the women's ones don't to any significant degree.

It's not feminine.

Renato

Floral is one thing I sure don't get out of that. A rich deep sandalwood with some eucalyptus that can make it seem a bit medicinal.

if you like it, wear it. It is not "girly."

I have a sample tube of the AoS sandalwood cologne. As a cologne, it doesn't really "stand out". If you have tried the AoS sandalwood shaving products and know it's scent, then you already know what the cologne smells like. It is a mild, and pleasant smell, woodsy, but natural, and not like the pine/cedar notes. Subtle. However, I use the AoS shaving products and find that the balm itself provides me with the scent I need in that aspect, and at half the cost. But that is my $0.02

He is a man who makes his own decisions. He has made it crystal clear that he is looking for something uber masculine...nothing wrong with that.

Have you ny chance tried Dyptique Tam Doa? That is a pretty popular (and better) sandalwood in my opinion. It is about twice the price of AOS though.

How long does it last on you? When I tested Dyptique stuff they were okay but only seemed to last 3 or 4 hours on me.

Well, Tam Dao is the only Dyptique frag I have tried. It had pretty decent longevity. Have you tried this one? Or have you had poor results with others? Fragrances that use high quality, and primarily natural ingredients often do suffer when it comes to longevity.

I have a sample and really like it. It is strong and lasts. I like the "creamy" rich s'wood scent it gives. I don't find it floral or girly at all. Enjoy it mein freund!

I remember trying it and Philosykos at the same time - I was very much into wrist testing and timing longevity at that time. Sometimes my wrist testing results don't directly relate to results from the actual wearing on me, or on other people.

I think you're safe with this one. Art of Shaving is a pretty mainstream brand and they are large enough to have female oriented ranges of stuff, like their rose shaving cream (not sure if they make it any longer). I think that anything that they market to men is going to be for guys who are all man. Their lemon is a good scent for guys in the summer, and sandalwood for guys in the winter. If they thought it was in the least bit girly, they would be marketing it to women.

By the way, welcome to B&B. I see that you signed up earlier--have you stopped by the newbie forum to introduce yourself? Lots of cool stuff happening in the other shaving forums too.
