Anyone make their own wooden bowls?

I like wooden soap bowls with lids, but they are kinda expensive to buy. One of my hobbies is woodturning, so I decided to try making my own. Does anyone else here make their own?

Here's what my first one looks like. It is made of cherry wood and is now filled with MWF.

No but I've been wanting to investigate wood turning as a hobby. I'd love to be able to make shaving soap bowls, pens, brush handles etc.
The only time I ever tried it was in high school which was way, way back.

That's a beautiful bowl. I wish I had that talent :thumbup1:

Very nice bowl...I do not have the skills or tools to make one, however, I do like wood bowls and have been able to find them on line for $6.50 which I thought was good compared to others I've seen.

Beautiful! My Grandad used to turn wood. I wonder what happened to his lathe? My half-witted family probably chucked it in a skip along with everything else from his workshop when he died.

Can we have some photos of your gear and some in-process?

Just think what they're going to do to your razor collection when you pop your clogs!

Beautiful bowl and the cherry will oxidize to a wonderful, rich patina over time. I don't turn (not that talented in woodworking, just basic carpentry here), but my Dad does great turning work and I use one of his early efforts to hold soap sometimes. Recently, he has gotten into segmented bowl turning. Which, if anyone is familiar with it, appears to be extremely mathematical, tedious, labor intensive, etc and yields absolutely amazing results when done correctly. Forgive the bragging on my Dad, but he is way too modest to admit how talented he is and is also not a member of B&B. So, thank you for permitting me the liberty to do so.

I just googled "segmented bowl turning." Unbelievably beautiful! He should be proud of himself.
